NEW ORLEANS – Navy track and field had six student-athletes –
John Finnegan (Spring, Texas), Emma Foster (Poteet, Texas),
Skyler Mason (Oakdale, Pa.),
Kevin Murray (Wilmington, Del.),
Stefano Pineda (Hockessin, Del.), and
Benjamin Stewart (Charlestown, R.I.) – named All-Academic on Monday afternoon by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, the Navy men's team was one of 139 men's programs honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
In order to be in contention for team recognition, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
Finnegan (800m, 4x400m Relay), Foster (Javelin), Mason (Javelin), Murray (3,000m Steeplechase), and Pineda (Pole Vault) each qualified during the outdoor season by advancing to the NCAA East Preliminaries, while Stewart (Heptathlon) was ranked 20th during the indoor season in the multi-events to qualify.
Navy's 2019 USTFCCCA All-Academic
