All-Time Series
Navy holds the all-time series record, 3-0. The Midshipmen opened the series with a 43-0 victory over the Griffins in 2016 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The following season, the Mids started the 2017 season in Conshohocken, Pa., picking up a 27-17 victory. Last year, Navy once again posted a shutout, earning a 31-0 victory in Annapolis.

2019 Team Captains
This season, Navy will be led by a pair of senior captains – Troy Monroe (Columbus, Ga.) and J.T. Thompson (Stratham, N.H.). Monroe, a 2018 Second Team All-CSFL selection, will serve as the defensive captain, while Thompson will be the offensive representative.

Postma Claims Pair of Weekly Accolades
David Postma (Bellevue, Wash.) of the Navy sprint football team was named the NAAA Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman, and he was also selected as the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Defensive Player of the Week.

Postma helped anchor a defense that held the potent Black Knight offense to just seven points as Navy defeated Army West Point, 14-7, in the annual Star Game as part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. It was the first Star win over Army for sprint football since a 10-3 victory at home in 2016.

Tied 7-7, Postma intercepted an Army pass and returned it 14 yards for the go-ahead / game-winning touchdown. The touchdown was Postma's second defensive TD in as many games as the senior returned a fumble for a score against St. Thomas Aquinas in the season opener.

He finished with eight total tackles, including a half a tackle for loss, an interception, and a pass break up. Postma was part of the Navy defense that caused five turnovers – four interceptions and a fumble – and two three-and-outs on the Black Knights' seven possessions in the second half. The Navy defense caused seven pass break ups and tallied 25 yards lost on 4.0 sacks.

Last Time Out
Navy captured the first star of the 2019-20 campaign as the Midshipmen posted a 14-7 victory over Army West Point at Shea Stadium in West Point, N.Y. as part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. The Mids trailed 7-0 at halftime, but used a pair of scores, including a pick six, and lock-down defense to post the victory.

Defensively, Navy held Army to 298 total yards, including 205 passing yards and 93 rushing yards. The Midshipmen recorded four interceptions – all in the second half – and caused a pair of fumbles. In addition, the Mids' defense caused seven pass break ups and tallied 25 yards lost on 4.0 sacks.

In the second half, the Navy defense was a thorn in the Army West Point side. The Midshipmen caused five turnovers – four interceptions and a fumble – and two three-and-outs on the Black Knights' seven possessions in the second half.

Senior captain Troy Monroe (Columbus, Ga.) paced the team with 12 total tackles, including eight solo stops. He registered four tackles for loss (42 yards), including a pair of sacks (22 yards). Monroe was joined by David Postma (Bellevue, Wash.) who added eight tackles, and an interception returned for a touchdown. Tied 7-7, Postma scored his second defensive score of the year as he intercepted an Army pass and returned it 14 yards for the game-winning score. Postma was joined by Pat Guinan (Elmhurst, Ill.), Grant Hooper (Huntingtown, Md.), and Adam Weissenfels (Richland, Wash.) who each recorded second half interceptions to end Black Knight drives and help secure the win.

Offensively, The Midshipmen struggled to find a rhythm tallying just 123 total yards. The Mids rushed for 56 yards, while throwing for 67. Caleb Champion (Milton, Fla.) and Braydan Chmiel (Warrenton, Mo.) led the way with 20 yards apiece on the ground. Chmiel finished 4-for-12 for 67 yards and a touchdown passing. The touchdown came as Chmiel hit Ramesh Nagarajah (Boston, Mass.) in the side of the end zone to tie the game early in the third quarter.

Last Time vs. Chestnut Hill
Navy used a strong second half performance to post a 31-0 victory over Chestnut Hill at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Midshipmen's defense held the Griffins scoreless and did not allow a first down in the second half, holding the visitors to 31 yards of total offense in the final two quarters.

Navy led 7-0 at halftime, but Chestnut Hill had a 123-to-115 advantage in total yards, outgaining the Mids 82-39 in the air. The Navy ground game tallied 35 more yards (76-41) than Chestnut Hill in the first half, despite recording just 16 yards on the ground in the first quarter.

In the second half, the Midshipmen began to click. The defense completed the shutout, holding Griffins' defense to just 31 total yards and no first downs. Senior Dean Rye (Fairfax, Va.) scored a defensive touchdown intercepting a Chestnut Hill pass and taking it 35 yards into the checkerboard end zone. All three sacks by Navy came in the fourth quarter as senior Gavin O'Donnell (Greenfield Township, Pa.) led the charge with 2.5 sacks for 15 yards. O'Donnell finished the game with the team lead in tackles with nine, including 3.5 tackles for loss. Senior Mason Hooten (Orlando, Fla.) had a tackle for loss, led the team with a pair of pass breaks ups, and joined Rye with an interception. Rye and senior captain Sheppard Wilson (Charlotte, N.C.) each recovered fumbles in the game.

Offensively, Navy tallied three rushing touchdowns, while also converting a field goal. Quarterback Braydan Chmiel (Warrenton, Mo.) led the team with 85 rushing yards and a pair of scores. Caleb Champion (Milton, Fla.) was second on the squad with 53 yards on the ground and Kaleb Bodily (Logandale, Nev.) also found the end zone. In the passing game, Chmiel finished 9-for-17 with an interception, connecting with five different receivers. Four different Mids finished with two receptions with Stefano Saragusa (Haines City, Fla.) and Jared Wiltshire (Elizabethton, Tenn.) leading the way with 41 and 34 yards receiving, respectively.

After a scoreless first quarter, Navy was able to find the end zone in the second quarter, taking a 7-0 lead. Chmiel capped off a four-play 48-yard drive with a 15-yard scamper into the end zone to break the scoreless tie.

The turning point came on a goaline stand by Navy as Chestnut Hill looked to tie the game late in the second quarter. A pass interference penalty in the end zone against the Midshipmen set the visitors up with first and goal at the two yardline with under five minutes to play in the half. The Mids defense held on first and second down, surrendering just one yard. On third and goal from the one, the Griffins fumbled the handoff on a rush attempt and Rye jumped on the loose ball at the two yardline. Navy was able to run out the clock and led 7-0 at halftime.

Navy received the second-half kickoff and proceeded to march the ball down the field for a touchdown on a five-play, 56-yard drive punctuated with a one-yard Chmiel plunge into the end zone. The drive was highlighted by a pair of 20-yard completions from Chmiel to senior captain Dane Livengood (Treynor, Iowa) and Saragusa to set up the rushing score. After forcing a three and out, the Midshipmen offense tallied 66 yards before ending the drive with a 30-yard field goal by Jared Swenson (Seymour, Wis.).

In the fourth quarter, Rye started the scoring for Navy, picking off a Chestnut Hill pass and taking it 35 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. With just over two minutes remaining in the game, Bodily took the handoff nine yards into the end zone for his first TD of the season.
