Navy Faces George Mason Friday Night in Home Finale

Navy Notes
• Inside the Match: Riding a three-match winning streak, the 21st-ranked Navy wrestling team (3-1, 1-0 EIWA) returns to action when it plays host to George Mason (0-2, 0-2 Mid-American) on Friday evening (7:30 pm). The two programs will meet for the 12th time since the series began in 1983. The Midshipmen have won all 11 matches, including the four duals wrestled in Annapolis. As a friendly reminder, Friday's dual is closed to fans due to ongoing public health guidelines in the state of Maryland.
• Follow the Action: A live stream of the Navy-George Mason dual will be available on ESPN+ with Pete Medhurst on the call. Fans can either subscribe to ESPN+ for $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year, while a subscription to the Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ bundle is available for $12.99 per month.
• The subscription allows you not only to stream on your computer, but also on the following devices: iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Android Phone, Android TV, Android Tablet, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, Chromecast, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Oculus Go.
• Format: Navy and George Mason are scheduled to wrestle a traditional 10-bout, team-scored dual while the two programs will also wrestle extra matches that will count towards an individual's season record. Simultaneous to the dual, the Navy and George Mason "2's" will wrestle on a second mat. At the conclusion of the dual, two mats will again be utilized with matches featuring Navy "1's" vs. George Mason "2's" and George Mason "1's" vs. "Navy "2's."
• More on the Patriots: Led by fourth-year head coach Frank Beasley, George Mason enters Friday night's match having wrestled twice. The Patriots opened the season with a 32-3 loss at Rider on Jan. 24 before having duals against Central Michigan and Ohio canceled. George Mason was able to replace one of those matches with a dual at Edinboro last Sunday that saw the Patriots come up just short in a 22-20 loss. An exceptionally young squad, 18 of the 27 wrestlers on the roster are either freshmen or redshirt freshmen. Among the standouts for the Patriots this season are sophomore Josh Jones, who has posted a 4-1 overall record and 1-1 dual mark at 125 pounds, and redshirt sophomore Sam Stith, a transfer from Presbyterian who has produced a 3-0 record including a 2-0 mark in dual action at 197 pounds.
• Senior Celebration: Friday night's dual marks the final home appearance for Navy's 12 senior wrestlers - Jared Arlett (Naval Officer), Dean Caravela (Marine Corps Ground), Casey Cobb (Marine Corps Ground), Caleb Kelly (Navy Pilot), Aslan Kilic (Marine Corps Ground), Wyatt Long (Naval Officer), Scout Skidgel (Marine Corps Pilot), Tanner Skidgel (Marine Corps Ground), Jack Stanton-Taddeo (Marine Corps Ground), Dillon Taylor (Naval Officer), Logan Treaster (Medical Corps) and team captain Cody Trybus (Marine Corps Ground). Additionally, senior Kyle Trybus (Navy Pilot), who was forced to retire due to injury, will also be honored.
• EIWA Championship Info Announced: The Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championship will be held off-campus for the first time in the event's history. Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, Pa. will serve as the host venue for the championship scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26. It will be the first time since 1909 that it will be a one-day event. Ten schools - American, Army, Binghamton, Bucknell, Drexel, Hofstra, Lehigh, LIU, Navy and Sacred Heart - will compete in the championship and features five of the top seven teams from the 2020 tournament. Absent from this year's tournament will be the Ivy League (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Penn, Princeton) and Centennial Conference (Franklin & Marshall) teams. The Championship is set to kick off at 10 am with place winner matches slated for approximately 5:30 pm. No spectators or media will be permitted at the championship.
