Binghamton (7-9, 5-1 EIWA) won four of the final five bouts to rally from a five-point deficit and defeat the Navy wrestling team (3-5, 1-4 EIWA) 19-16 Sunday afternoon at the Events Center in Vestal, N.Y.
Navy jumped out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a 5-0 victory by senior team captain
Jacob Allen (Sr / 125 / Poway, Calif.) and a solid 4-1 decision by #21
Josh Koderhandt (Fr / 133 / Belleville, Ill.) over #30 Anthony Sobotker. Allen built more than three minutes of riding time as he inches closer to career win No. 50 (49-38). Meanwhile, Koderhandt picked up his second win over a ranked wrestler in as many days. Particularly notable in this win was the fact Sobotker came into the weekend tied as the nation's leader in pins with 10 this season.
Binghamton, meanwhile, answered with a pair of wins of its own, taking a one-point advantage (7-6) thanks to an 8-0 major decision by #33 Ryan Anderson over Navy's
Tyler Hunt (So / 141 / Calhoun, Ga.).
Twentieth-ranked
Andrew Cerniglia (So / 157 / Nazareth, Pa.) looked to swing momentum in the favor of Navy when he converted his 6-0 advantage into a win by fall over Tyler Martin.
Navy, though, was unable to ride the momentum, instead it lost the next four matches by a combined eight points, including a 4-2 decision by #15 Lou DePrez over Navy's
Jacob Koser (Jr / 197 / Dillsburg, Pa.) in sudden victory which clinched the team win for the Bearcats. Koser was tough on the ride against the two-time EIWA Champion and All-American, forcing extra minutes. DePrez was able to get the best of Koser 34 seconds into the extra frame.
Despite the match being out of reach,
Ryan Catka (Fr / 285 / Brookhaven, Pa.) kept his focus and dominated Binghamton's Collin Burns, coming up just shy of a tech fall with his 17-5 victory in the evening's final bout.
