Lucas Spiro (Fr / Buffalo, N.Y.) was named to the 26-player Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference All-Academic Team announced this week. The Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference is the first squash-specific collegiate athletic conference in the United States and was officially sanctioned by the College Squash Association Board of Directors in May of 2019. The conference includes Dickinson, Drexel, Franklin & Marshall, MIT, Navy and Virginia.
A physics major, Spiro put together a 3.95 grade-point average his first semester at the Academy, earning mention on both the Superintendent's and Commandant's Lists. He stands No. 1 in Military Order of Merit, No. 43 in Academic Order of Merit and No. 15 in Overall Order of Merit among his class of 1,144 students at the Academy. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
On the court, Spiro amassed a 15-12 record in 2021-22, seeing action at both the No. 5 and 6 positions on the ladder. He played a big role in the Mids winning the Summers Cup this winter, as he claimed a win in the opening-round match against Brown (def. Liam Ball, 3-1), as well as a 3-2 victory over Nathaniel Mosse of Amherst in the semis.
