ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy (28-10, 7-0) men's tennis team will play host to Army (16-12, 5-1) Saturday at 1 p.m. on the USNA Tennis Courts in Annapolis, Md. The regular season finale for both teams serves as the annual Star Match for the programs, which is part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.

Accessing the USNA
Fans without a Department of Defense-approved ID card will not be allowed to drive onto the USNA. Those fans must park outside of the USNA gates and walk through the gate one security center.
No matter how someone accesses the USNA, those ages 18 and older must present a photo ID card to gain entry and those ages 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Navy (28-10, 7-0)
The Mids enter Saturday having won each of their last eight matches. The streak was extended when Navy defeated Loyola and Harford C.C. by the identical score of 7-0 on Wednesday.
Individually,
Gavin Segraves (Jr., Charlottesville, Va.) has posted a 5-0 record in singles against Patriot League foes, with
Jack Dabek (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) and
Sasha Panyan (So., Lutherville, Md.) each having totaled 4-0 records. The doubles teams with the best records against league opponents are the
Finn Garner (Jr., Arnold, Md.) and Segraves duo (4-0) and the pairing of
Derrick Thompson (Sr., Towson, Md.) and Panyan (3-0).
Army (16-12, 5-1)
The Black Knights have won seven of their last eight matches, with the one defeat in that span being a 4-0 loss to Lehigh last weekend.
Comparing Results
Army and Navy share 12 common opponents this season. The teams have posted the same result against 10 of them, with those differences being NJIT (Navy lost, 4-3; Army won, 4-3) and Lehigh (Navy won, 5-2; Army lost, 4-0). In comparing results against the remainder of the Patriot League, both teams have recorded victories over Boston U., Bucknell, Holy Cross, Lafayette and Loyola. The Mids have additionally posted a 7-0 win over Colgate while the Black Knights did not face the Raiders this season.
One of the strengths for each team is doubles play. Navy has compiled a 12-2 record in completed doubles matches against the six shared Patriot League opponents (14-2 including Colgate) and Army has tallied a 13-2 record in completed doubles matches against those same foes. The Mids won the doubles point in all seven league matches and the Black Knights won the doubles point in five of their six (Lehigh) contests.
2021 Recap
Navy posted a pair of victories over Army last season. The Mids first won a 4-1 decision over the Black Knights in the Star Match held in West Point. The Mids earned the doubles point before they took a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of straight-set singles wins.
Eight days later, Navy posted a 4-2 win over Army in the championship match of the Patriot League Tournament in Bethlehem, Pa. The Black Knights began the final by winning two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The Mids bounced back with two singles victories, then Army tied the match at 2-2. Back-to-back Navy victories closed out play.
Career Statistics
Current Navy players who faced the Black Knights last season posted a 6-3-1 record in doubles and a 5-1-3 record in singles in the two matches between the teams. On the other side of the net, current Army players who played the Mids in 2021 compiled a 4-6-2 record in doubles and a 2-6-3 record in singles a year ago.
In looking at career numbers, which only additionally includes the 2019 season (two Navy wins) as the teams did not meet during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, Navy players are have combined for a 10-3-2 record in doubles and 7-3-5 mark in singles against the Black Knights, while Army players have totaled a 4-9-2 record in doubles and a 3-8-4 record in singles against the Mids.
