ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's golf team (0-0) completed the first day of match play against Delaware State (0-0) Saturday at the Naval Academy Golf Club, winning three of the four four-ball matches to secure a 3-1 lead over the Hornets. The two teams will return to the links 8:30 a.m. Sunday for eight singles matches, with the first squad to seven points being declared the winner.
DSU took the opening point of the match as the pairing of Ana Ferreyra-Heit and Nattavadee Khunsri downed Navy's duo of
Angelina Chan (Jr., Franklin, Tenn.) and
Jenna Han (Fr., Mahwah, N.J.), 4 & 3.
However, the Midshipmen were able to bounce back after going into an early one-point deficit, evening the score at 1-1 as
Bridget Hoang (Fr., Lawrenceville, Ga.) and
Tori Smith (Sr., Arlington, Tenn.) defeated Delaware State's Julie Gauvin and Nimah Naringesingh, 5 & 4.
Navy took its first lead of the day, 2-1, after
Mara Hirtle (So., Pinehurst, N.C.) and
Stephanie Lee (So., Southlake, Texas) posted a 4 & 3 victory over Jirada Kluaymaingarm and Estelle Verny.
The final decision of the day saw
Hannah Han-Kim (Fr., Potomac, Md.) and
Eve Worden (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) defeat Amber Pennington and Taylor Simoneau, 3 & 2, to ensure a 3-1 lead for the Mids heading into Sunday.
