BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Navy track and field men's team concluded competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. Sophomore
Brahmir Vick (Middletown, Del.) posted a school record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.71 (-1.5) to highlight the afternoon for the Midshipmen.
"It's hard to be disappointed when you set a PR and school record," Director of Navy Track and Field / Cross Country
Jamie Cook said. "Brahmir is a competitor so he is upset that he is not advancing, but ending the season with a school record is pretty good. He has worked hard and had a great year. You have to keep going through the process, try to improve every day, and have some motivation moving forward."
Vick finished fifth in his heat with his school-record performance. The time was four hundredths of a second faster than his previous record-time of 13.75, which he set earlier this year at the Princeton Elite Invitational. Vick finished 13th overall, just missing advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championship by one hundredth of a second.
Earlier in the afternoon, Navy started competition with
Cole Bailey (Yukon, Okla.) in the high jump. The senior posted a height of 2.00m (6-06.75), clearing his first attempt at the mark. The height was his fifth best of the season.
"Cole had a great career and had a terrific opportunity to compete here today," Cook said of his senior. "All in all, you have to take away the positives and we represented ourselves and the Academy very well."
On Saturday, the Navy women's competition opens with Taylor Buchanan (Columbia, S.C.) and Hannah Lowenstein (Pompano Beach, Fla.) taking part in the high jump at 2:30 p.m. Ellie Abraham (Brookings, S.D.) and Winter Boese (Clark, Colo.) close out the day for the Midshipmen in the 3,000m steeplechase at 5:40 p.m.
"I think it is going to be great," Cook said of women's competition. "Those athletes are going to compete for their school and their selves. I feel pretty confident going into tomorrow."
Free live video and live results will be available throughout the meet.
