ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team posted a solid performance on Day 1 of the Patriot League Outdoor Championship at Ingram Field at the Naval Academy. The women tallied 77 points to lead all 10 teams, while the men's team notched 93 points to hold the lead over the nine-team field.
 
The women tallied 77 points to lead second-place Army (63 points) by 14 points after the first day. Boston University finished the day in third place with 34 points, while Bucknell (23) and Holy Cross (14) rounded out the top five.
 
On the men's side, Navy finished the first day with 93 points, ahead of Army who was in second with 75 points. BU was in third with 17 points, while Bucknell (14) and Lehigh (13) were in fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
The women's team posted a pair of victories during the six finals events, while the men's team claimed four wins on the day. In addition, the Midshipmen qualified multiple athletes in each running event to set up the finals in day two.
 
Navy continues action in the 2022 Patriot League Outdoor Championship on Saturday, May 7, at Ingram Field in Annapolis. Live results will be available throughout the meet. Women's Recap
The women's team posted a pair of victories during the six finals events on the day.
 
In the long jump, Navy claimed five of the top eight spots to earn 23 points in the event. Katie Halbert (Keller, Texas) won the long jump with a distance of 5.74m (18-10.00), while teammates Breanna Mealer (Severn, Md.), Sami Bollinger (Temecula, Calif.), Sabrina Sutter (Shingletown, Calif.), and Giulia Mesa (Arlington, Va.) finished in the top 8 to earn points. Mealer finished in fourth, while Bollinger claimed fifth and Sutter took sixth. Mesa rounded out the group in eighth.
 
The Midshipmen went 1-2 in the javelin. Jadyn Tiracave (Ashville, Pa.) claimed the Patriot League title in the event with a throw of 44.87m (147-02), while Renny Murphy (Berwick, Pa.) earned second-team all-conference honors with a second-place finish.
 
In the pole vault, Charlene Morke (Isanti, Minn.) earned Second Team All-Patriot League distinction with a height of 3.94m (12-11.00), while Stephanie Jacobs (Belleville, Ill.) and Briana Green (King George, Va.) earned points, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
The Mids started the day with the 10,000m run. Jessica Nangle (South Hampton, Pa.) took bronze in the event with a school-record time of 34:40.51. Elizabeth Sullivan (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Meghan Sculli (Hilliard, Ohio) finished sixth and eighth in the event to earn points for the team.
 
The 4x800m relay team of Maddie Warrender (Mount Wolf, Pa.), Emily Ettrich (Whispering Pines, N.C.), Kelly Murray (Fort Washington, Pa.), and Kayla McGuire (Richmond Hill, Ga.) combined for a time of 9:05.57 to earn bronze in the relay.
 
Autumn Nicholas (Houston, Texas) earned points in the hammer throw with a fifth-place finish with an ECAC qualifying mark of 53.55m (175-08).
 
Through four events in the heptathlon, Halbert held the early lead with 3,131 points. Erin Higgins (Ashburn, Va.) was second with 3,093 points and Annie Taylor (Nashville, Tenn.) closed out the day in third place with 2,825 points. Sabrina Sokol (Ashburn, Va.) rounded out Navy's heptathlon competitors in fifth place with 2,695 points.
 
Men's Recap
On the men's side, Navy claimed four events, including three individual competitions and one relay.
 
The Midshipmen opened competition in the Championship with a victory in the 10,000m. Miguel Mathias (Nekoosa, Wisc.) won the 10,000m run with a time of 30:20.65, while teammates Grant Van Valkenburg (Duvall, Wash.) and Sam Keeny (Annapolis, Md.) took third and fourth in the event.
 
Walker Rudisaile (Marion, Texas) earned First Team All-Patriot League distinction with a victory in the pole vault with a height of 5.18m (17-00.00). Teammates Charles Dever (Thornton, Pa.) and Charles Crispi (Staten Island, N.Y.) both posted heights of 5.03m (16-06.00) to finish third and fourth, respectfully.
 
Navy took gold and bronze in the men's javelin. Braden Presser (Liberty, Mo.) won the event with a distance of 69.46m (227-11), while senior team captain Hayden Fox (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished third in his final home event as a Midshipmen.
 
In the 4x800m relay, David Nelsen (Chandler, Ariz.), Ian Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.), Sean Casey (Vienna, Va.), and Ashwin Briggs (Pickerington, Ohio) combined for a winning time of 7:30.13 to earn first-team all-conference accolades.
 
Navy went 2-3-4 in the long jump. Nahshon Houston (Kansas City, Kan.) posted a distance of 7.15m (23-05.50) to earn second-team all-conference honors in the long jump. Aidan Featherby (Corpus Christi, Texas) took bronze, while Caden Dailey (Centreville, Va.) finished just off of the podium in fourth place.
 
Joshua Boamah (San Diego, Calif.) finished third to earn bronze in the hammer throw with an IC4A distance of 58.57m (192-02).
 
Halfway through the decathlon, Navy holds three of the top six spots in the event. Baynes Autrey (Mountain Brook, Ala.) held the day-one lead with 3,598 points through five events. Jacob Jancek (New Era, Mich.) and Ryder Yriarte (Covina, Calif.) are fourth and sixth in the decathlon with five events remaining.
