ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Coming off its first team victory in its varsity history, the Navy women's triathlon team looks to carry the momentum into the NCAA East Regional Qualifier on Saturday at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Va.
The Mids will race in the A heat at 2:30 p.m. The meet will also feature a B heat that will start at noon.
Saturday's event will consist of a 750m swim, a 20.0 km (12.4 mile) bike and a 5k (3.1 mile) run.
"Our team is continuing to build its skills and adapt to the NCAA style of racing. It will take very aggressive cycling by our team to race to our potential on Saturday," said head coach
Billy Edwards. "It has been a fast season and a lot of learning has occurred. Our squad races as a team and with strength. I think that will be to our advantage in the regional championship."

Waterman's Sprint Triathlon Recap
Navy concluded the regular season by winning the Waterman's Sprint Triathlon on Oct. 1 to capture the first team victory in its varsity history.
All seven Mids placed in the top 15 to score 128 team points. Navy finished with 35 more points than second-place Delaware State.
Haley Harris was the first triathlete to cross the finish line at the competition with a time of 1:09:16.7. She became the first Mid to place first individually at a meet. The junior dominated the field, compiling the fastest swim (11:05) and run (19:07) times. She also finished with the second-best bike time (37:42).
Posting the top bike time was
Anna Wekluk (37:33), who took second place in the event at 1:12:41.8. She also finished with the second-best swim time at 11:07 and 10th-fastest run time at 22:35.
Sara Jarman's time of 1:13:20.3 earned her a third-place finish to help Navy sweep the podium. Her run time of 20:15 was the second-fastest finish in the field. The senior also ended with the third-best swim and sixth-best bike rankings with times of 11:30 and 40:26, respectively.
Madeline Klippenstein clocked in a time of 1:14:40.1 to place fifth. She registered the third-fastest run time at 20:33. Additionally, the junior secured the fourth-best swim (11:37) and 10th-fastest bike (41:04) times in the race.
Emely Vela followed up Klippenstein in sixth place with a time of 1:14:58.3. She posted the fourth-best run time at 20:52 along with the sixth-fastest swim time at 11:56. Vela also garnered a bike time of 40:50 that ranked ninth in the field.
Zoe Adama (1:15:07.3) crossed the finish line just nine seconds after Vela to take seventh place. Her top-ranked event was the run segment at 21:00. Additionally, her bike (40:29) and swim (12:13) times ranked seventh and ninth, respectively.
Reagan Quilty capped off the meet for the Mids with a 15th-place effort at 1:20:31.7.

National Championship Qualifying Criteria
The top-five individuals for each team will score to determine the top regional teams based on place. The top-three placing teams will automatically qualify for the A heat at the NCAA National Championship. Six additional teams from either the East or West Regional Championship will also qualify for the A heat as at-large teams. At-large teams will be determined based on the finish times of each team's top-five athletes. Fifteen individuals can also qualify for the A heat based on individual performances. The remaining teams will race in the B heat at nationals.
The NCAA National Championship will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 in Tempe, Ariz.
Big Weekend For Coach LaRochelle
Assistant coach
Alli LaRochelle will also be competing on Saturday. She will take part in the Ironman Women's World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The event is the first female-only race and features the best professional and amateur triathletes in the world.
