Men’s Tennis to Face Air Force Saturday on ESPN+

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team travels to Central Florida for a pair of matches on Saturday.  The Mids (7-7) will play Rollins College (1-1) at 11 a.m. in Winter Park and Air Force (7-0) at 5 p.m. in Orlando in a match that will be streamed on ESPN+.

College Match Day
The men's and women's teams from the two service academies will face each other in 5 p.m. dual matches as part of the USTA's College Match Day festivities.  Originated in 2013 and since 2017 held annually at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, the event has consistently drawn over 1,000 spectators.  A kids clinic is held prior to the start of the matches as part of an afternoon-long festival.

Some of the past matches have featured Air Force vs. Army, Florida vs. Florida State, Notre Dame vs. USC, Florida vs. UCF, Tennessee vs. Duke, Stanford vs. Oklahoma State and Georgia vs. Georgia Tech.

Navy Review
Navy split its two matches last weekend, defeating Richmond by the score of 4-0 and losing a 7-0 match to Delaware.

Doubles continues to be a strength for the Mids as they have won the doubles point in 11 matches and posted a combined 26-16 record this spring.  

Luke Garner (So., Arnold, Md.) and Sasha Panyan (Jr., Lutherville, Md.) have combined for a 7-0 record at No. 1 doubles in dual matches and an 11-5 record as a team since the start of the fall campaign.

Rollins Preview
The Tars, who compete on the NCAA Division II level, have posted a 1-1 record this season.  Rollins lost a 5-2 decision to fourth-ranked Flagler College and recorded a 7-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic.

The Tars posted a 7-9 record last season.

Saturday's match at the school's Copeland Stadium will be the first between Navy and Rollins

Air Force Preview
The Falcons are undefeated through seven matches heading into a Friday match against North Florida.  Air Force has won four matches by the score of 4-3 (Rice, Montana, Abilene Christian and Denver).

Air Force ended the 2022 season with a 15-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark during the Mountain West Conference regular season.  The fifth-seeded Falcons lost a 4-2 decision to No. 4 San Diego State in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.

Navy has won all five previous matches against Air Force.  The teams last met in 2017, which was the first match played in the series since 1973.
