Track and Field Returns to Competition at IC4A / ECAC Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams will compete at the IC4A / ECAC Outdoor Championships Friday through Sunday in Fairfax, Va., at George Mason Stadium. 

The meet begins Friday with the men's hammer throw at 3:30 p.m. The field events resume Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and the track events start at 2:50 p.m. Sunday's slate features the remaining field (10:30 a.m.) and track events (11 a.m.).

Navy at the IC4A / ECAC Championships
The men's team has claimed seven IC4A titles in program history and has won the meet three of the last four times it has been held. The Mids won three-straight championships from 1944-46 and won their fourth title in 1973. Navy then won the event three-straight times in 2018, '19 and '21. (canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19). 

The women's team has won an ECAC Championship at both the Division II (1989) and Division I levels (2021). 

Last Time Out (Patriot League Outdoor Championship)
The Navy teams swept the Patriot League Outdoor Championship for the fifth-consecutive time the meet has been held.

With the two victories, the Navy track and field / cross country teams won all six Patriot League Championships for the second-straight season.

Men's Recap
The men's team posted 323.2 points to win its ninth-straight outdoor title and 10th all time. Navy won 12 of the 22 events and broke two meet records on its way to claiming the title. 

The men's team claimed all five of the post-meet individual awards. Jacques Guillaume was named the men's track athlete of the meet following victories in the 400m (47.30) and 400m hurdles (52.09). Additionally, he helped the Mids win the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:10.79.
 
Joshua Boamah collected the men's field athlete-of-the-meet accolade and highest-point-scorer honor. The junior won the shot put and discus with marks of 17.67m (57' 11.75") and 54.71m (179' 6"), respectively. He also placed second in the hammer throw with the third-farthest mark in Navy history at 66.20m (217' 2").

Nathan Kent earned the men's rookie-of-the-meet award for posting a victory in the 200m (21.17) and a second-place finish in the 400m (47.81). He also helped the Mids claim the 4x400m relay gold medal and aided the 4x100m relay team (40.46) to a second-place finish.

Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook was named the men's coach of the year.

Women's Recap
The women's team recorded 241.5 points to claim its fifth-consecutive title and seventh all time. The Mids placed first in seven events and also broke a pair of meet and program records on the weekend. 

Molly Chapman received the women's field athlete-of-the-meet award. She won the long jump with the third-best mark in school history at 5.85m (19' 2.5"). Navy's team captain also broke the program record in the triple jump at 12.33m (40' 5.5") to take third place in the event. Her jump is a slight increase over the previous school record set by Sammi Bollinger (12.29m / 40' 4") last season. Additionally, Chapman recorded a fourth-place height of 1.68m (5' 6") in the high jump.

Cook was also selected as the women's coach of the year. 

Up Next
The Mids travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the NCAA East Regional Championship May 24-27. North Florida will play host to the four-day event at Hodges Stadium.

Athletes who have recorded a time / mark that ranks in the top 48 in their respective event in the East Region through meets held this weekend will be eligible to compete in Jacksonville.

The men's team currently has nine athletes who own a qualifying time / mark in eight events.
