ANNAPOLIS, Md. --

Caroline Irwin and
Mackenzie Kim each won a pair of events as the Navy women's swimming and diving team (6-3) closed its dual meet season with a 157-129 victory over James Madison (3-3), Saturday at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis.
Navy had defeated James Madison, 151-149, last season.
The Mids as a team totaled victories in 15 of the 16 contested events, with 10 Navy swimmers or divers winning at least one individual event.
"Our entire team did an awesome job," said Navy head coach
John Morrison. "We were very pleased with the energy and efforts of our team today. Our first relay teams set the expectation for the meet and the team followed suit. Our depth across all of the events came through with 10 event winners against a very tough James Madison team.
"We are excited to head into the championship portion of our season."
Horner posted winning times of 1:50.95 in the 200 free and 5:05.61 in the 500 free. Irwin won the 50 free in a time of 23.76 and the 100 fly with an effort of 55.64. Kim placed first in both diving events, winning the one-meter board with a score of 289.88 and the three-meter event with a tally of 331.88 points.
Marin Rose opened the individual event portion of the meet by winning the 1000 free in a time of 10:19.82. After Horner's 200 free win,
Ela Habjan followed with a winning time of 54.86 in the 100 back.
Riley Gavigan extended the streak by placing first in the 100 breast with her effort of 1:04.02.
Abbie Sullivan then was the first to the wall in the 200 fly with her time of 2:05.53.
The second half of the meet began with
Maya Novack winning the 100 free with an effort of 51.37. Next,
Gabi Baldwin and
Maddie Koutavas posted back-to-back wins in the 200 back (2:02.52) and 200 breast (2:17.18), respectively.
Navy also won both the 200 medley and 200 free relay races.
The Mids will next be in competition Feb. 3 when they and the men's team take part in the Navy Invitational.
