ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's golf team battled but ultimately suffered a 4.5-3-5 loss to in-state foe Maryland in match play Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club.
Playing a modified match-play event with eight singles matches on the par-72, 6,084-yard course, the Midshipmen found themselves down early to the Terrapins as the first group saw Tammy Wu beat sophomore
Una Johnson, 5 & 4, and Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer knocked off junior

The Mids started a rally when freshman
Megan Kirkpatrick tied Daniela Burgos Ortega, while sophomore
Keira Howard picked up Navy's first singles win of the day when she defeated Panassaya Somchit, 2 & 1. Julia Garcia put the Terps on the verge of victory when she earned a 3&2 win over freshman
Vivian Cressman, but junior
Sue Lee claimed her third-straight singles victory by beating Chananyu Chowiwattana, 3 & 2, to keep Navy's chances alive.
As sophomore
Emma Tang was knocking off Maryland's Nicha Kanpai, 3 & 1, the Terps wrapped up the team win when Anna Pilard held on against senior captain
Bridget Hoang, 4 & 3.
"This was a great matchup against a very solid Maryland team," said head coach Kylee Sullivan. "Every player battled incredibly hard, as we are excited to build off of this match and head to Lehigh next weekend."
Navy is now 7-4 in match-play events, going 1-2 in singles-only matches.
Up next for Navy is the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 19-20.
