Navy Classic Notes

·         Navy is among the 15 teams who have combined to win the 46 previously-wrestled Navy Classics.

·         Among this year's 13-team field, there are five teams who have previously been crowned the Navy Classic champion – Indiana (2016), Kent State (2012), Navy (1978-84, '88-89, '91, '94, '96, '04-06, '08-10, '11, '17), Nebraska (1997, '22-23) and The Citadel (2003).

·         Two Big Ten teams have won the tournament crown in the last three years it's been held – 2021 Michigan State, 2022-23 Nebraska.

·         Sophomore Danny Wask is the only current Mid who has won an individual title at the Navy Classic.

·         Saturday's Navy Classic will be the Navy's second tournament this season. The Mids previously competed at the Clarion Open on Nov. 3 where sophomore Daniel Williams (184) led the team with a third-place finish in his respective weight class.

Last Time Out: at No. 11 Iowa State

·         The Midshipmen squared off against No. 11 Iowa State last Friday where they dropped the road dual, 29-9. ISU was Navy's third ranked opponent it has faced in a dual meet this season.

·         Ninth-ranked Josh Koderhandt got the Mids on the scoreboard with a 3-2 victory over Zach Redding. Koderhandt went into the third stanza down 1-0 until a big reversal and riding time was the determining factor in the victory.

·         Navy would go on to win two of the next four bouts, including Jonathan Ley's (So. / 157 / Miami, Fla.) first dual victory of the season as he defeated Kane Naaktgeboren, 4-2. Ley attacked early with a first period takedown and displayed solid defense as he only allowed points from an escape and a lock hands penalty. The Mids' final bout victory came at 174 pounds from No. 23 Danny Wask (So. / 174 / Wantage, N.J.) who executed a takedown in the first and second periods against Aiden Riggins for the 8-3 decision.
