Track and Field Begins Indoor Season with Navy Invitational I

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The defending Patriot League Indoor Champion Navy track and field teams open the 2024-25 season with the Navy Invitational I on Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.

The field events begin at 9 a.m. and the track events start at 11:45 a.m. The meet will not have team scoring.

Notes for Traveling Fans
• Vehicular access to the Naval Academy is limited to those drivers with a Department of Defense identification card. 
• All other visitors must either park outside of the Naval Academy grounds and walk through the security gates at Gate 1 or take the complimentary shuttles from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401). 
• The shuttles will run from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Enter the blue/west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue. 
• The cost of parking is $10.
• Visitors 18 years and older must present a government-issued identification card (driver's license / passport) to gain access to the Academy grounds, while visitors 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

2023-24 Indoor Season Recap

The men's team went undefeated in 2023-24, defeating Princeton (92-87), Army and won the Patriot League Indoor Championship.

The Mids posted a 103-78 victory in the Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet, which is part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA, at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. Navy claimed first place in 10 of the 17 events and earned the maximum points (eight) in four. With the win, the Mids improved to 36-27-2 all-time in the indoor series against the Black Knights. Navy claimed the star for the fifth-straight year and the 11th time in the last 13 years.

The year opened with a 92-87 victory over Princeton at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. The Mids won nine of the 17 events and scored the maximum points (eight) in four. Navy has won its last four duals against Princeton.

For the team's performance at the league championship, director of track and field / cross country Jamie Cook received his fifth Patriot League Indoor Championship Men's Coach-of-the-Year award. Additionally, Nathan Kent was the recipient of the Patriot League Indoor Championship Track Athlete-of-the- Meet accolade and was named the meet's highest point scorer. Joshua Boamah garnered the men's field athlete-of-the-meet honor for placing first in the shot put and weight throw.

The women's team defeated Army and won the 2024 Patriot League Indoor Championship.

The women's team claimed their fifth-straight win in the Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet, which is part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA, by a score of 99-82 at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. Navy won 10 of the 17 events and earned the maximum points (eight) in three to improve to 20-17-1 in the indoor series. The Mids have now won the women's indoor Star Meet 14 times since 2006.

Navy won the 2024 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship, which was held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass. The Mids won their fifth-consecutive indoor title and eighth all-time. Alayna Schloeder added her name to the Patriot League record book with her victory in the pole vault. She broke the school and meet record with a height of 4.10m (13' 5.25"). Sophia Richter garnered the Patriot League Women's Rookie-of-the-Meet Award. Along with anchoring the first-place 4x400m relay team, she won the 400m and placed fifth in the 200m.

Coach Cook was also selected as the women's coach of the year. He has claimed the women's coach-of-the-year accolade the last five times the meet has been held.

Meet the Captains

Jacques Guillaume and Taylor Woodworth were selected by their peers to serve as team captains for the indoor season.

Guillaume was a member of the 4x400m relay squad that posted the second fastest time (3:11.04) in program history, to win the event at the 2024 Patriot League Indoor Championship. He also finished second in the 200m with a time of 21.43 at the conference championship.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native was an NCAA East Regional qualifier in the 400m hurdles and a member of the 4x400m relay team during the outdoor season. He placed first in the 400m hurdles with the third fastest time of 51.21 in Navy history to win the event at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship. Guillaume's big day at the outdoor championship continued as he helped the 4x400m relay team take first with a program-record time of 3:09.76.

Woodworth helped the 4x400m relay team finish first at the Patriot League Indoor Championship with the second-fastest time in program history of 3:42.94. She took silver in the 400m with a time of 54.70 at the conference championship. During the Army-Navy Star Meet, Woodworth was a member of the 4x400m relay squad that finished first with a time of 3:44.21.

Woodworth continued to collect accolades during the outdoor season winning the Patriot League Championship as a member of the 4x400m (3:43.44) relay team and 4x100m (46.14) relay team. The Lacey, Wash., native earned her second ECAC All-East honor as a member of the 4x400m relay team that clocked a time of 3:47.50 to take second at the IC4A / ECAC Championship.

All-League Returners

Coach Cook returns 17 athletes who earned all-league recognition at last year's Patriot League Indoor Championship.

Jay Evans (4x400m Relay), Guillaume (4x400m Relay), Nathan Kent (200m, 400m, 4x400m relay), Luke Nester (Distance Medley Relay), Matt Newell (Distance Medley Relay), Carson Sloat (Distance Medley Relay), Murphy Smith (5,000m) and David Walker (4x400m Relay) return as defending champions for the men's team. Mids who placed second in their respective events last season include Thomas Christie (Heptathlon), Guillaume (200m) and Smith (3,000m).

Jia Anderson (60m Hurdles), Kylie Bedard (4x400m Relay), Annie Lemelin (4x400m Relay), Katelyn Pepin (Distance Medley Relay), Sophia Richter (400m, 4x400m Relay), Alex Wercinski (4x800m Relay, Distance Medley Relay) and Woodworth (4x400m Relay) will look to defend their Patriot League Indoor Championship titles on the women's side.

Gracie Emerick (Pole Vault) and Woodworth (400m) placed second in their respective events at the conference championship last season.
