SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Navy track and field teams concluded their two-week road trip by breaking three school records at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational on Saturday at Point Loma in San Diego, Calif. The meet did not have team scoring.
Along with the three team records, the Mids won 26 events and posted 34 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks.
"We had a very good meet today. This was an awesome experience and I can't say enough about Point Loma for hosting us. Breaking three records in just our second meet of the outdoor season was huge," said Director of Track and Field / Cross Country
Jamie Cook. "
Joshua Boamah broke a 60-year record in the shot put and also won the discus and hammer.
Nathan Kent had a stellar day by breaking the 100m record. He also would've set a new 200m record in an allowable wind. Then you have a fantastic race by
Brahmir Vick, who easily broke his own school record in the 110m hurdles. We had a lot of excellent performances today and a great weekend overall. We will continue to adjust now that we're heading back home. We want to put our best foot forward, but we also have to make good decisions. Our focus going into this next week is getting back into more of a routine with classes starting up again.
"It has been awesome to see all the alumni support we've gotten out here the past few weeks. We've seen alumni here that I've coached in the last seven years and also athletes before I started coaching here. The passion and pride they talk about in being a part of the program means so much. They always talk about how this team made a difference for them not just athletically, but professionally as well. It means a lot to continue to have their support. Very thankful to all the alumni who supported us out in California and throughout the country."
