Track and Field Travels To Philadelphia For 128th Penn Relays

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams are set to compete in the 128th edition of the Penn Relays Thursday through Saturday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
 
The collegiate events at America's oldest and largest track and field competition begin at noon Thursday and Friday and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Weekly Rewind
Mayu Gayton highlighted the Navy Spring Invitational by setting a new school record in the 100m. She posted a winning time of 11.73, which bested the previous record set by Loni Forsythe (11.74) in 2005 by 0.01. Gayton's time ranks fourth in the Patriot League this season.
 
Nathan Kent was the additional mid to set a top-10 time in the track events at the meet. He clocked in the fourth-fastest 200m time in program history at 20.98 to win the race. Kent's season-best 200m time of 20.76 currently stands at 71st in the nation and first in the Patriot League.
 
Annie Taylor recorded the top heptathlon score in her career. She compiled the third-best score in team history with 5,013 points to take first place. Taylor's heptathlon point total is 74th in the country and first overall in the Patriot League.
 
Walker Rudisaile posted his best pole vault height of the season to finish in second place. He tied the fourth-best mark in Navy history by clearing the bar at 5.21m (17' 1"). His height ranks 50th nationally and first in the conference.
 
Six mids who competed at the Virginia Challenge added their names to the record book.
 
Emily Boutin placed 15th in the 5,000m invite by recording the second-fastest time in program history (16:26.38). Her time is second in the Patriot League.
 
Sophie Compton ran the third-best 5,000m by a Patriot League athlete this season. She won the additional 5,000m race after clocking in the fourth-fastest time in school history at 16:33.32.
 
Alexander Kirkland ended in eighth place in the men's 5,000m invite with the eighth-best time in team history at 13:59.27. He owns the third-fastest finish in the Patriot League.
 
Matt Newell and Luke Nester placed back-to-back in second and third place, respectively, in the 1,500m. Newell posted the ninth-best time in Navy history (3:44.49). Nester's effort of 3:44.79 ranks 10th all-time in program history. Their finishes rank third and fourth in the Patriot League, respectively.
 
Ellie Abraham crossed the finish line with the second-best 3,000m steeplechase time in school history at 10:15.20. She garnered a fifth-place finish in the invitational race. Her time stands at 33rd in the nation and first in the Patriot League.
 
Sam Keeny's 15th-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase invite (8:48.94) was less than a second from being a top-10 time. The senior still owns the 41st-fastest time in the country and the top finish in the Patriot League.
 
Updated Patriot League Rankings
Both the men's and women's teams are ranked No. 1 in the Patriot League in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) conference rankings.
 
The men earned 1,873.17 points, which is 480.71 points ahead of No. 2 Army. The Mids own 29 times / marks that rank in the top three in the conference.
