FAIRFAX, Va. - The Navy track and field teams concluded competition at the IC4A / ECAC Championships on Sunday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va., with a pair of top-three placements.
Despite both teams having limited participants, the men's team placed first of 38 teams with 133 points in the IC4A Championship. The Mids totaled 56 more points than second-place George Mason to win their ninth IC4A Championship in program history. Navy has now won the meet five of the last six times it has been held.
Nathan Kent was named the men's most outstanding performer for scoring 20 points combined in his two events. The sophomore won the 200m by posting the ninth-fastest finish in school history (21.06). Additionally, he clocked in a season-best 400m time of 46.41 to place first in the race.
The women's team finished in third place of 38 teams with 65.25 points in the ECAC Championship.
A total of 36 (22 men, 14 women) Midshipmen earned IC4A / ECAC All-East accolades for placing in the top eight in their respective events.
"Winning the meet wasn't the main focus today, but the men did a fantastic job in multiple events to earn the win. Everyone on this team has pride in what they do and everyone wanted to end their seasons on a great note. We also had some seniors finish their careers today and they performed very well. The women's team did very well in the meet, but we just didn't have the entire team there," said Director of Track and Field / Cross Country
Jamie Cook. "A big focus for today was improving times and marks for regionals and
Nathan Kent did that in a big way. He improved his 400m time and posted another great time in the 200m. Was really proud of him for the way he performed to earn athlete of the meet.
Joshua Boamah and
Braden Presser were also solid as well and we wanted to continue to build their rhythm going into regionals. We want to make sure everybody stays fresh moving forward into regionals and continue trending upward. We'll give them a few days of rest early in the week and then get after it to get ready for Kentucky."
