Mids to Play Host to Spiders and Hoyas Sunday in Men’s Tennis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team returns to the Tose Family Tennis Center on Sunday when the Mids (9-5) play host to Richmond (2-4) at 10 a.m. and Georgetown (3-5) at 1:30 p.m.

Richmond and Georgetown will face each other Saturday afternoon in Annapolis.

Navy Review
Navy played a trio of 4-3 matches last weekend, losing to Florida Gulf Coast and Hofstra by that score and defeating Hampton.  The Mids also lost a 4-0 match to Air Force.

The Florida Gulf Coast and Air Force matches were played at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Navy has split its four matches this season which have had the final score of 4-3.

Richmond Preview
The Spiders enter the weekend after they dropped a 7-0 decision to VCU in their last match.  Richmond has posted wins over Army (4-2) and Marist (4-0) and lost matches to Virginia Tech (6-1), Liberty (6-1), Hofstra (4-2) and the Rams.  

The Spiders compiled a 14-8 record last season and earned the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament with a 6-1 mark against A10 foes.  Richmond fell, 4-0, to third-seeded Dayton in the semifinal round of the event.

Navy holds a 27-15 edge in the series with Richmond.  The teams played a doubleheader against one another a year ago.  The Spiders posted a 4-0 victory in the first match and the Mids won a 4-3 decision in the second.

Georgetown Preview
The Hoyas are coming off of a 7-0 loss to Penn State.  Georgetown's wins this season have come against Howard (7-0), Army (4-2) and Marquette (4-1) and its losses have been to Old Dominion (6-1), Princeton (5-2), Virginia Tech (5-2), St. John's (4-0) and the Nittany Lions.

The Hoyas finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 15-8 and a Big East Conference mark of 4-3.  The third-seeded team in the conference tournament lost a 4-3 match to No. 2 DePaul in the semifinal round of the postseason.

Navy leads the series with Georgetown by the count of 77-21-1.  Each of the last two matches in the series, as well as three of the last five and six of the last 11, have had the final score of 4-3.  The Mids won the 2024 match by that score and the Hoyas posted the narrow victory in 2023.
