BETHLEHEM, Pa. — After missing 4 games due to injury, Navy's
Colin Shadowens (Jr / Severna Park, Md.) returned to the field last Saturday at Holy Cross where he dominated the faceoff "x" and subsequently has been named this week's Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week. In addition to Shadowens, this week's Patriot League players of the week included Boston University's Andrew Pape (Offense and Rookie), Donald Varnerin (Defense) and Will Barnes (Goalkeeper).
Shadowens is the 7th different Navy player to earn faceoff specialist of the week honors from the Patriot League since the award was established in 2016.
Zach Hayashi (So / North Potomac, Md.) is the last Navy player to earn the weekly faceoff award, winning it 4 times last spring. Additionally, Shadowens is the 5th different Navy player to earn one of the league's weekly awards this season, joining
Dan Daly (Jr / GK / Wayne, N.J.),
Jack Ponzio (Fr / M / Ronkonkoma, N.Y.,
William Goers (Fr / A / Chester, Md.) and
AJ Marsh (So / D / Reisterstown, Md.).
Shadowens, who was injured on the opening draw of the Boston U. game on March 1, was a welcomed return for the Midshipmen. He helped spark the Navy offense by winning 16 of the 20 draws (80.0) he took, career highs in wins, attempts and percentage. The 80.0 winning percentage is the 2nd-best performance by a Navy player during the Joe Amplo era (2020-present) with at least 15 attempts in a game. Shadowens' previous highs were 5 wins (most recently against Iona), 10 attempts vs. Iona and a 50.0 winning percentage against Iona. Additionally, he picked up a career-high 8 ground balls.
Navy returns to Patriot League action on Saturday when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y. to battle Colgate at 2:00 pm. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, while Joe Miller will have the call on 1430 AM / 99.9 FM WNAV.
