Intercollegiate Sailing Picks Up Nine All-MAISA Selections, Three Major Awards

Nathan Smith Named Open Skipper of the Year and Ellie Alex Honored as Crew of the Year, Dillon Paiva Garners Coach of the Year Distinction

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team had nine Midshipmen selected to the 2024-25 All-Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Teams this week, while Navy also garnered a trio of major awards from the conference.
 
Highlighting the honors were junior Nathan Smith taking home MAISA Open Skipper of the Year and fellow junior Ellie Alex earning MAISA Crew of the Year, while Navy assistant coach Dillon Paiva was named the MAISA Coach of the Year.
 
Smith, fellow junior Jack Welburn and sophomore Henry Allgeier were selected to the All-MAISA First Team as open skippers, while senior Evie Blauvelt was named a first-team all-conference women's skipper. Earning All-MAISA First Team crew distinction were Alex, fellow junior Darby Graham and sophomore Fiona Cullen.
 
On the All-MAISA Second Team were junior women's skipper Ava Farley and senior crew Ryan Wahba.
 
Navy concluded the 2024-25 season last week with a second-place finish at the ICSA Open Fleet Race Championship.
