Navy Places Fifth at 2026 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship

The 15th-ranked Navy squash team (22-5) closed out a busy weekend of action by placing fifth at the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship hosted by Virginia. Navy opened the tournament with an 8-1 loss to #6 Drexel (7-3) on Friday evening, followed by a tough 6-3 loss to #12 MIT (13-3) on Saturday morning. The Mids went on to sweep #25 Dickinson (8-11) 9-0 Sunday afternoon to finish the tournament in fifth.

Weekend Highlights
• Wenqing Tang (So / Villanova, Pa.) was sensational throughout the weekend, winning all three of his matches. He opened with a hard-fought 5-game victory (7-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9, 11-4) over Guido Lindner, who traditionally plays the #2 position in the lineup for Drexel. He came back on Saturday to take a 3-0 match against Philip Hyun Su Price of MIT before closing out the weekend with a spectacular 5-game win (15-13, 7-11, 11-5, 9-11, 13-11) over Dickinson's Joe Smythe. Tang was down 10-6 in the fifth match, but fought his way back to take the fifth game 13-11 to seal the win.
• Tang is 24-2 on the year and a remarkable 48-6 in his two seasons at Navy. After winning 24 matches a year ago, he becomes just the sixth player in school history to win 24 or more matches multiple times in their career, joining Nils Mattsson (3x), Allan Lutz (2x), Ben Mantica (2x), Justin Langan (2x), John Richey (2x). The 24 wins ties for the 14th most in school history with Jeff Sawin holding the record with a 28-4 record in 2006-07.
• Team captain Alexander Orr (Sr / Haverford, Pa.) and Christian Graziano (Fr / Greenwich, Conn.) both finished the weekend with 2-1 records. After falling in 4 games to Drexel's Youssef Bastawy in the opener, the rookie bounced back to sweep his MIT (Ethan Chan, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10) and Dickinson (Owen Buroker, 11-8, 11-3, 11-3) foes. Meanwhile, Orr also dropped his first match of the weekend to Drexel's Yuri Pollak Pelbart in 3 games before turning aside MIT's John Gunton (13-11, 11-7, 11-4) and Dickinson's William Krizek (11-8, 11-9, 12-10) in 3 games apiece.
• Heading into the College Squash Association Team Divisional Championship in two weeks, Orr stands 19-4 this season. With his 2 wins at the conference championship, he moved past former teammate Matt Wang (72 / 2021-25) on the all-time wins list and into 12th with a 73-38 career record. He needs just 1 more win to break into the top 10 and tie Mike Brennan (74-34 / 2001-05), Christopher Zipf (74-36 / 2005-09) and Jim Kacergis (74-40 / 2011-15) for ninth.
• Johan Hodgson (Fr / Riverside, Conn.), Matthew Kang (Jr / Malvern, Pa.), Avinash Uppuluri (So / Short Hills, N.J.), Michael Tierney Jr. (So / Berwyn, Pa.), Ramsay Killinger (Jr / Wyndmoor, Pa.) and Eli Levy (So / Williamstown, Mass.) all earned victories against Dickinson to finish the tournament 1-2.
• The win by Killinger was the 50th of his career, as he became the 40th player in program history to reach the 50-win milestone. In three seasons, he has put together a 50-27 record, and heading into the divisional championship, he needs 2 wins to reach 20 for the year.

What's Ahead
• Navy will have the next two weeks to prepare for the CSA Team Divisional Championships Feb. 27-March 1 at the Specter Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
