Navy Finishes Third in Hoehn Cup at 2026 CSA Divisional Team Championship

The 15th-ranked Navy squash team (24-6) concluded the 2025-26 campaign by posting a 2-1 record and a third-place finish in the Hoehn Cup at the College Squash Association Divisional Team Championship held over the weekend at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia. The Hoehn Cup represents teams ranked 13-20.

Seeded fourth, the Mids opened the weekend with a 5-4 victory over fifth-seeded Middlebury (9-9) on Friday evening. With the match locked up at four wins apiece, it was Andrew Ko (Fr / Sykesville, Md.) who secured the team victory for Navy thanks to a 6-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-3 victory over Theo Kogan. Somewhat of a fairy tale ending, Ko was not only making his Divisional Team Championship debut, it was also his first match back on the court after missing the previous four matches due to injury. Although Navy has also played in the Summers (21-28) and Conroy Cup (29-34), it was the first time the Mids have won an opening-round match in the Hoehn Cup since 2008.

With the win, Navy advanced to play top-seeded MIT (18-5) on Saturday evening. The top-three players in Navy's lineup were able to secure wins, however, the Engineers went on to defeat the Mids 6-3. Five of Navy's six losses to MIT went extra frames, including heartbreaking five-game losses by Matthew Kang (Jr / Malvern, Pa.) and Michael Tierney Jr. (So / Berwyn, Pa.).

Navy battled back on Sunday afternoon and upset second-seeded Amherst (12-8) in the third-place match. The Mammoths bested Navy during the regular season in Amherst, 5-4, but the Mids were fantastic in the consolation finals and scored a 6-3 victory.

The Mids finished the season with a 24-6 record, marking the most wins by a Navy team since the 2012-13 squad finished the year 25-9.

Individual Notes
• Two Navy players went undefeated over the weekend, including the Mids' #1 player Wenqing Tang (So / Villanova, Pa.). Tang closed out the season with an incredible 27-2 record with his only two losses coming against the nation's best at the CSA Individual Championship. He posted a remarkable 27-0 record in team competition. His 27 wins are tied as the second most in program history alongside Bill Kacergis (27-6 / 2012-13), Mitch Bottini (27-6 / 2012-13) and Allan Lutz (27-9 / 2008-09) and just one shy of the record held by Jeff Sawin who posted 28 wins in 2006-07 (28-4). Meanwhile, Tang becomes the only player in school history who has finished a season winning 90 percent or more of his matches with a minimum of 20 wins. He finished the year with a 93.1 winning percentage with the next-closest play winning 87.5 percent of his matches (Jeff Sawin, 28-4 / 2006-07).
• Tang also surpassed the 50-win milestone in just his second season. He stands 51-6 and is the second Navy player to surpass 50 wins this season (Ramsay Killinger). He is the 41st player to reach 50 wins in program history.
• Christian Graziano (Fr / Greenwich, Conn.) also put together a 3-0 mark this weekend in what was his CSA Divisional Team Championship debut. Navy's #2 player on the ladder, he closed out the season with an 18-6 record.
• Team captain Alexander Orr (Sr / Haverford, Pa.) posted a 2-1 record at the #3 position and finished his career with a 7-4 all-time mark (3-0 Fr / 2-1 So / 0-2 Jr / 2-1 Sr) at the Divisional Teach Championship. Additionally, he closed out the season with a 21-5 record, reaching the 20-win mark for the second time in his career and the first since finishing his rookie season with a 23-11 record.
• Orr also closes the book on a sensational career that saw him finish with a 75-40 mark over four seasons. The 75 wins are the ninth most in Navy squash history and the most since Senen Ubina finished his career with a 77-33 mark (2015-19).
• Also finishing the weekend with 2-1 marks were freshmen Johan Hodgson (Fr / Riverside, Conn.) at #4 and Ko at #6. Hodgson missed the opening weeks of the season due to an injury, but came back to finish strong with a 13-3 mark in his first season. Ko, meanwhile, closed out the year with a 14-7 mark.
• Both Avinash Uppuluri (So / Short Hills, N.J.) and Ramsay Killinger (Jr / Wyndmoor, Pa.) just missed out on 20 wins for the year, but both captured a win at the Divisional Team Championship to help lift the Mids to a third-place finish. Uppuluri finished the year 19-8, while Killinger ended the season 19-7.
• While Kang and Tierney Jr. came up short this weekend, they both played three solid matches. Kang lost twice in four games and once in five, while Tierney Jr. lost in five, four and three games. Kang finished the year 15-10, while Tierney Jr. was 17-8.
