The Navy men's golf team returns to the links this week when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. to play in the 12-team Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. Hosted by William & Mary, the two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Gold Course) with tee times slated for 8:30 am on both Monday (36 holes) and Tuesday (18 holes). Tournament History
• William & Mary has hosted a spring tournament since 1978, however this will be the 10th time the competition has been held at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.
• The 2001, '02 and '05 tournaments were played on the Green Course, however the 2019, '21, '22, '23, '24, '25 and now '26 tournaments were held on the Gold Course.
• The Gold Course also played host to the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Championship and the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Championship.
• Longwood (+4/ 280-287-289=856) won the team title by 7 strokes over second-place Drexel (+11 / 290-289-284=863). Rhode Island (+12 / 288-289-287=864) finished just a stroke behind Drexel, while William Mary (+13 / 286-290-289=865) was 2 strokes behind Drexel.
• Longwood's Justin LaRue (68-68-69=205) and Georgetown's Carsten Judge (71-75-69=205) were co-individual medalists. LaRue, the highest-ranked player in the field at #216, won last year's tournament with a 10-under par 203.

Navy at the 2025 Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate
Chip Deegan closed out play at the 54-hole Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate just 2 strokes out of the lead, while the Navy men's golf team tied Villanova for fifth place with a 17-over par 869 (291-290-288). 

Navy has played well in this tournament in recent years, placing fourth in both 2023 (295-281-297=873) and '24 (288-296-296=880). The Mids, however, improved upon both of those scores Monday and Tuesday with their 17-over par 869 which marked the ninth-lowest 54-hole score in relationship to par in program history. It's the lowest since the September of 2023 when Navy finished The Doc Gimmler with a 13-over par 853.

Deegan, meanwhile, came just 2 strokes shy of claiming individual medalist honors for a second time in his career and a second time at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. He won the tournament in 2023 with the exact same performance, a 6-under par 207. He opened this year's tournament with an electrifying 6-under par 65, tying as the fourth-lowest round in relationship to par in program history. Though he was even in the second round, he shared the lead with Longwood's Justin LaRue and Georgetown's Carsten Judge. Deegan was even in the final round, while LaRue and Judge were able to surge ahead with a 2-under par 69 in the final round.

Teammate Jack Tarzy secured his 10th top-20 finish of his career and fourth of the season after turning in a 1-under par 70 in the final round. He closed out the tournament tied for 20th with a 5-over par 218 (75-73-70)

Team captain Benjamin Valdez placed 42nd with an 11-over par 224 (76-80-68), followed by Derek Weaver in 52nd with a 14-over par 227 (75-72-80) and Owen Huntington (was 61st with a 16-over par 229 (76-74-79).

Danny Auffant competed as an individual in the tournament, placing 74th with a 20-over par 233 (74-82-77).

The Mids This Year
Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate • March 9-10 / Palmetto Golf Club, Aiken, S.C.
• Seniors Chip Deegan and Jack Tarzy finished the 54-hole Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate under par, while leading the Navy men's golf team to a seventh-place finish with an 18-over par 858 (280-276-302) at the Palmetto Golf Club.
• Deegan and Tarzy were in the thick of it throughout the two-day tournament, shuffling amongst the top 11. Deegan started the tournament red hot, turning in a 4-under par 66 in Monday's opening round that featured an eagle on the 14th hole. He closed out the day with a 2-under par in the second round. He came back on Tuesday to post a 2-over par 72 to finish out the tournament in a tie for fourth place with a 4-under par 206.
• Tarzy also had a strong opening day, turning in a 3-under par 67 in the first round, followed by a 4-under par in the second round. He fell back in the standings on Tuesday, capping the tournament with a 6-over par 76. Tarzy, however, remained under par for the tournament at -1 (209), just a stroke out of the top eight.
• As a team, Navy shot par (280) in the opening round which was the third-lowest score over the first 18 holes. The Mids finished out the first day in second, as their second-round 4-under par 276 was tied as the lowest round of the afternoon. The Mids finished in a tie for seventh alongside Boise State, the highest-ranked team in the field (#106).

Watersound Invitational • Feb. 16-18 / Panther National, Panama City, Fla.
• Highlighted by 1-over par 281 in the opening round, the Mids completed the 54-hole Watersound Invitational with a 31-over par 871 to place 12th among a field that featured six teams ranked among the top 45 of the CLIPPD national team rankings and four among the top 11.
• For a second-straight year, Chip Deegan led the Mids at the Watersound Invitational where he shot par (210) en route to placing 29th. He opened with a team-low 3-under par 67, before shooting par in the second round and closing out with a 3-over par 73 in the final round.
• Team captain Jack Tarzy was just two strokes behind Deegan in 38th (+2 / 212). Tarzy also got off to a strong start in the tournament with a 2-under par 68, followed by par in the second round and a 4-over par 74 over the final 18 holes.

FAU Invitational • Oct. 27-28 / Panther National, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
• Navy shot a 26-over par 602 (298-304) to place 16th at the Florida Atlantic Invitational played at the par-72 Panther National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. 
• The tournament, Navy's final competition of the fall season, was shortened from 54 to 36 holes after teams were unable to get the first two rounds in on opening day.
Chip Deegan and Sebastian Alonzo paced the Mids with a 4-over par 148 to tie for 49th. Deegan shot par, Navy's low round of the tournament, over the second 18 holes, while Alonzo finished the opening round with a 1-over par 73.

Nassau Intercollegiate • Oct. 20-21 / Nassau Country Club, Glen Cove, N.Y.
Jack Tarzy shot a 4-under par 66 in the final round of the Nassau Intercollegiate to clinch co-individual medalist honors, while Navy tied host LIU and Iona for eighth.
• Tarzy, who shot a 2-over par 212 (73-73-66), shared individual medalist honors with Utah Valley's Paxton Maxwell (69-73-70).
• Tarzy, who entered the day 6 shots back from the leader, is believed to be the first Navy golfer to earn medalist honors in 3-consecutive tournaments (The Goat, Commander-In-Chief's Cup, Nassau Intercollegiate). 
• The three wins by Tarzy this season are the most by a Navy golfer in a season since Billy Hurley won 6 tournaments his senior year in 2003-04. 
• He is the first Navy golfer to win 3 tournaments over a career since Charlie Musto won three - 2 in 2017-18 and 1 in 2019-20.

Army - Star Match • Oct. 11-12 / Naval Academy Golf Club, Annapolis, Md.
• Navy won four of the first-five singles match en route to a 6-5 victory over the Black Knights in the annual Army-Navy Star Match played at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis.
Luke Lombardo secured the final point on the 18th green, as the Mids claimed the program's first Star win against their arch rival since 2021. 
• Additionally, the win marked the school's 1,200th victory over Army.

Commander-In-Chief's Cup • Sept. 30 - Oct. 1 / Winged Foot Golf Club, Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Jack Tarzy shot a 13-over par 223 to claim individual medalist honors for the second time in as many weeks, while the Mids dominated Army and Air Force to win the program's first outright Commander-In-Chief's Cup.
• Navy (449-459-480=1388, +128), who built a 20-stroke advantage over Army after just 18 holes, defeated the Black Knights  (1406, +146) by 18 strokes and Air Force (1411, +151) by 23 strokes. 
• In addition to Tarzy, four other players finished among the top 10 - Chip Deegan (2nd), Derek Weaver (T7th), Hudson Mitchell (T9), Ed Scott (T9).

The Goat • Sept. 20-21 / Naval Academy Golf Club, Annapolis, Md.
• Team captain Jack Tarzy shot a 3-under par 68 in the final round of The Goat to clinch individual medalist honors for the first time in his career, while Navy, as a team, placed second with an 11-over par 863 (287-291-285). 
• It marked the third-lowest 54-hole score in relation to par by the Mids in program history and the lowest since they shot a 2-under par 850 at the Phoenix Invitational Oct. 14-15, 2019.
• Tarzy's 8-under par 205 marked the third-lowest 54-hole score in relation to par in program history and the lowest since Nicholas Klock shot a 13-under par 200 at the Georgetown Intercollegiate Oct. 10-11, 2021.
• Tarzy, who went on to earn Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Week laurels, had finished as the runner-up on three occasions, including last year's The Goat when Loyola's Gustavo Rangel bested him by a single stroke.

Jackson T. Stephens Cup • Sept. 15-16 / Shoreacres, Lake Bluff, Ill.
Chip Deegan represented the Naval Academy at the 2025 Jackson T. Stephens Cup where he placed 16th with a par 210 (69-72-69).
• Deegan, who was named the Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Week for his performance, was the top-finishing service academy player in the tournament and one of seven golfers who received a special invitation to play as an individual in the team-scored event held at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff, Ill. 
• The field included full teams from 10th-ranked LSU, 15th-ranked North Carolina, 22nd-ranked Arizona, along with Northwestern, Texas and SMU. Individuals represented Air Force, Army, Florida A&M, Howard, Livingstone and Navy.

Folds of Honor Collegiate • Sept. 8-10 / American Dunes Golf Club, Grand Haven, Mich.
• Navy opened the 2025 campaign with a 13th-place finish at the fourth-annual Folds of Honor Collegiate played at the par-71 American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. The Mids shot a 44-over par 896 (300-300-296).
Chip Deegan led the Mids with a 6-over par 219 (72-77-70) to finish 25th.
• The field included 19 teams that were represented at the 2025 NCAA Regionals, eight that advanced to the NCAA Championships, and 13 that ended the Spring ranked in the top 30 in the country.
• Defending Folds of Honor Collegiate champion Alabama made it two in a row, as the Crimson Tide captured the team title by 6 strokes over Notre Dame. Alabama's William Jennings secured individual medalist honors with a 4-under par 209 (71-67-71).
