WEST POINT, N.Y. - Sophomore Brian Zitterkopf (Pace, Fla.) leads the heptathlon after day one of the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Gillis Field House.
Zitterkopf scored 2,737 points on the first day of competition. His top point-scoring effort came in the high jump where he cleared 6'7.5" (2.02 meters) to earn 822 points. His marks included a 60-meter dash time of 7.60 (681 pts), a long jump of 20'11.25" (6.38 meters) and a shot put distance of 37'1" (11.30 meters). Zitterkopf is 10 points ahead of the day-one pace of 2,727 he set at last year's league championship, where he would eventually finish fourth with a score of 4,532.
Freshman Chris Fowler (Westford, Mass.) is also participating in the seven-event competition. He will enter Saturday in 10th place with a score of 2,404.
The final three events of the heptathlon will be contested on Saturday at 8:45 a.m., followed by the first of the field event championships with the weight throw at 11:00 a.m.
