The men's tennis team is one of today's features for our Sunday Salute series for teams that had their seasons end early this year.
Â
The Mids had posted a 16-8 record this spring and were on the verge of starting their Patriot League regular season when play was halted for the year.
Â
Senior
Matthew Lee (San Diego, Calif.) led the Mids with an 11-1 singles record in dual matches. He compiled records of 4-0 at the No. 5 flight and 7-1 at the No. 6 flight. Finishing not far behind Lee in matches won since January 1 was
Derrick Thompson (So., Towson, Md.). The 2019 Patriot League Rookie of the Year had posted a 10-3 record in singles, a record that included a 7-2 mark at No. 2 singles.
Â
Thompson and
Andrew Ton (Jr., Milpitas, Calif.), the two-time (2018, 2019) Patriot League Player of the Year, paced the Mids as a tandem this spring with an 8-1 record at No. 1 doubles.
Â
When including the entire 2019-20 season, senior
Greg Durham (Sr., Melbourne Beach, Fla.) and
Jack Dabek (So., Dublin, Ohio) tied for fourth on the team for doubles wins with 14 each. The duo finished behind Thompson (17) and both
Finn Garner (Fr., Arnold, Md.) and Ton (15).
Â
Lee ended his career with a 58-46 overall record in singles. That included a 19-6 record this year. He also posted a career doubles record of 42-40.
Â
Durham, this year's team captain and a second-team all-league selection last year, compiled a 56-53 record in singles and a 72-38 record in doubles over his four seasons. He was part of Navy's singles and doubles lineups during the 2018 and 2019 NCAA Tournament appearances made by the Mids.
