After kicking off the 2021-22 season a week ago when it crowned three individual champions at the Clarion Open, the Navy wrestling team will keep its focus on tournament action when it travels to Vestal, N.Y. to compete at the 12-Annual Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open on Sunday. The tournament will be held at the Events Center with doors opening at 8:00 am and competition set for 9:00 am.
The tournament is held annually on the second Sunday in November (right around Veterans Day) to honor former Binghamton graduate and wrestler (2007-10) Jonathan Kaloust, a Navy SEAL who was killed in the line of duty in May of 2013.
An "open" tournament, there will be no team scoring and unattached wrestlers are eligible to compete. The field includes wrestlers representing American, Binghamton, Bloomsburg, Brown, Bucknell, Buffalo, Clarion, Columbia, Cornell, Edinboro, Franklin & Marshall, Lock Haven, Navy, Penn State, Princeton, Rider and Sacred Heart. Navy is expected to send 17 wrestlers to the Bearcat Open.
FloWrestling will handle the multimedia coverage with live brackets on its website, while a live video stream ($) will also be available via the Bearcat Wrestling Club. Links to both the live brackets and video stream are available on the NavySports.com website.
