ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team opens its 2022-23 indoor season Saturday with the annual Navy Invitational I at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the men's weight throw while running events start at 11:15 a.m. with the men's 1-mile. Admission to the Navy Invitational I is free and open to the public.
"We are excited about the upcoming season. The team has trained very hard throughout the fall," said director of track and field
Jamie Cook. "We have a nice mix of returners and newcomers who are anxious to compete. Saturday will be a fun time for all. We encourage everyone to come out to support the team and watch some of the best athletes in the Mid-Atlantic run, jump and throw."

Notes for traveling fans:
• Vehicular access to the Naval Academy is limited to those drivers with a Department of Defense identification card.
• All other visitors may park outside of the Naval Academy grounds and walk through the security gates at Gate 1 or they may take the complimentary shuttles.
• The shuttles will run from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will pick up spectators at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401).
• Enter the blue/west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue.
• The cost of parking is 10 dollars per vehicle.
• Visitors 18 years and older must present a government-issued identification card (driver's license/ passport) to gain access to the Academy grounds, while visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Navy returns 25 athletes who earned all-league honors at last year's Patriot League Indoor Championship. The men return 11 athletes who garnered First Team All-Patriot League honors.

Charlene Morke (Pole Vault) also return to defend their conference crowns. The women return three members of the 4x400m relay team (Mangan,
Sabrina Sutter,
Helen West) and the 4x800m relay team (Abraham, Julius,
Kelly Murray) who earned Second Team All-Patriot League recognition. Abraham (800m), Sutter (200m) and West (400m) also earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors in their individual running events.

Baynes Autrey and
Molly Mangan to serve as team captains for the indoor season. Autrey is coming off an exceptional junior campaign where he was named the Patriot League Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet. Autrey took first place in the heptathlon at the Patriot League Indoor Championship with a school record 5,510 points. He was also named to the 2022 Indoor Academic All-Patriot League team.
Mangan enters her senior year looking to add even more accolades to her historic career. She enters 2022-23 with seven First Team All-Patriot League honors and five Second Team All-Patriot League honors. Mangan took first in the 200m (24.88) in last year's Patriot League Championship while placing second in the 4x400m relay (3:51.57) and third in the 400m (57.02).
Many Events In Annapolis
The Navy Invitational I is one of four track meets in Annapolis this season. Navy will also host its dual versus Princeton (Jan. 14), the Wesley A. Brown Invitational (Jan. 20-21), the Navy Select (Feb. 17) and the 2023 Patriot League Indoor Championship (Feb. 25-26). All home indoor meets will be held at the Wesley A. Brown Field House.
2021-22 Indoor Season Recap
The Navy men's track and field team went undefeated during the indoor season, defeating Princeton (W, 90-86), Army (W, 101-80) and winning the Patriot League Indoor Championship. The men's victory over Army was their 34th all-time and 22nd in Annapolis. The Mids won 10 of the 17 events in America's Meet, earning maximum points in seven events on the day. The victory was the third straight indoor win over Army, and the eighth in the last 10 indoor star competitions.
The men won their 12th Patriot League Indoor Championship in program history and eighth in the last nine years. They finished with 264 total points, winning nine of 18 events and broke school records in the pole vault and heptathlon.
Baynes Autrey was named the Patriot League Men's Field Athlete of the Meet and director of track and field
Jamie Cook was named Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year.
The women's team also defeated Army and took the 2022 Patriot League Indoor Title. The women beat Army 94-87 for their third straight victory and 18th all-time by winning nine of the 17 events. The women's 2022 Patriot League Indoor Championship was their sixth in program history and marked the third consecutive conference title. The women finished with 202 points, claiming first in seven of 18 events while breaking school records in the 60m hurdles, pentathlon, long jump, 4x800m relay and distance medley relay. Cook also took home Patriot League Coach of the Year honors after another conference title for the Navy women's team.
The Mids also earned recognition for their work in the classroom. Autrey,
Brett Brady,
Ashwin Briggs and
Sean Casey were selected to the Patriot League's 10-person Indoor All-Academic men's team, and Casey was named the 2022 Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Katie Halbert were selected to the Patriot League's 11-person Indoor All-Academic women's team.
