LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Navy men's and women's track and field team leads after one day of competition at the 2022 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship, which is being held at Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Midshipmen broke five school records – men's pole vault, women's 60m hurdles, pentathlon, women's long jump, and women's 4x800m relay – on the day.
"Day 1, we qualified pretty well and competed well," Director of Navy Track and Field
Jamie Cook said following the first day of competition. "We had some school records and some PRs and event wins. I am really excited for those who really came through for us today. We had solid performances across the board."
The Navy men finished the day with 84 total points to lead Army (57.5) by 26.5 points. The women's team was able to finish the first day of competition with 78 points to lead the Black Knights (58) by 20.
Walker Rudisaile (Marion, Texas) broke the Navy school record in the pole vault with a jump of 5.35m (17-06.50). The height was also a Patriot League meet record as well.
Senior team captain Katie Halbert (Keller, Texas) opened the meet with a school record in the 60m hurdles, clocking a time of 8.51 to start competition in the pentathlon. Erin Higgins (Ashburn, Va.) tallied 3,834 points to set the new Navy and Patriot League meet record in the pentathlon, finishing first in the event. Halbert finished second with the second-best performance in Midshipmen history (3,750 points).
Breanna Mealer (Severn, Md.) won the long jump, registering a program record performance of 6.03m (19-09.50).
The relay team of Alanna Julius (Minnetonka, Minn.), Anna Kovacs (Toledo, Ohio), Kelly Murray (Fort Washington, Pa.), and Ellie Abraham (Brookings, S.D.) combined for a time of 8:50.44 to earn All-Conference honors and set a new Navy school record in the 4x800m relay.
Navy concludes competition in the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday. Multi events and field events being at 11:00 a.m., while running events start at 12:10 p.m. Free live results will be available throughout the meet, while free live video will be available on ESPN+ beginning at 12:00 p.m.
