ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team kicked off the spring portion of its 2021-22 season with a pair of first-place finishes over the weekend. The Midshipmen won the Georgetown Team Race, a joint event hosted by Georgetown and George Washington, along with recording a first-place finish at the Navy Team Race Invitational. In their third event of the weekend, the Mids place fifth out of seven teams at the Old Dominion Spring Women's Race.

At the Georgetown Team Race, the Midshipmen were seeded into the GW portion of the competition along with Penn, St. Mary's, SUNY Maritime and the Merchant Marine Academy. Navy posted a 10-2 record over the two-day event, led by skippers

Navy also hosted a team race invitational with four additional teams in attendance that included Fordham, Hobart, Penn and SUNY Maritime.

At the ODU Spring Women's Invitational, a tight weekend of competition led to Navy finishing fifth overall with 181 points. In the combined division,
Evie Blauvelt and
Madeline Smith tallied a fifth-place finish while
Carlyn Blauvelt,
Elizabeth Linsdell and
Maggie Schuler were 10th.

Following its pair of victories over the weekend, Navy will return to action March 12-13 as it hosts the Jen Harris Spring Team Race along with traveling to take part in the St. Mary's Team Race.
