ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team placed three individuals on the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) All-America teams, the national organization announced over the weekend.
Olivia de Olazarra was named an All-American Women's Skipper for the second-consecutive season, while
Fiona Lobon was recognized as an All-American Crew honoree and
Kimmie Leonard earned an Honorable Mention All-American Crew selection.
The trio joins
JC Hermus and
Gray Benson in earning All-America laurels from the ICSA, as the duo was recognized as an All-American Skipper and an Honorable Mention All-American Skipper, respectively, on May 23.
With a total of five athletes being named to the ICSA All-America Teams, the Midshipmen have now had at least five All-America honorees following each of the last three seasons.
A committee of representatives from the seven conferences in the ICSA selects the ICSA All-America Teams. To select an All-American skipper, the committee evaluates a competitor based on their competitive record in inter-conference competition as well as conference and national championships.
The committee analyzes how their record compares to fellow competitors, the quality of the competition, and results achieved competing with different crews, the span of the record over the fall and spring seasons and how the record compares to previous All-American winners.
Navy concluded its 2021-22 season by participating in all three ICSA National Championships over the last two weeks in New Orleans. The Midshipmen placed amongst the top-10 teams in each of the three competitions, highlighted by recording sixth-place marks in both the team race and fleet race championships.
