SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Navy track and field teams began the outdoor season with a dual meet against Westmont College on Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif. The meet did not have team scoring.
The Mids won 23 events and totaled 18 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks.
"We had a very good start to the outdoor season today. Westmont College has a great campus in a beautiful part of the country and we're very thankful for them to host this meet. We had a lot of alumni come to the meet and it was great to see this kind of support all the way across the country," said Director of Track and Field / Cross Country
Jamie Cook. "We had a lot of highlights to build on today. Everyone was working on one or two things to start the transition from indoors to outdoors.
Renny Murphy and
Braden Presser both had excellent starts to the season in the javelin. We had two great performances in the men's 4x100m relay.
Brahmir Vick,
Jia Anderson and
Annie Taylor all ran very solid races in the hurdles. We're very anxious heading into this week of training to better ourselves before our next meet."
Renny Murphy began her junior season by posting a top-10 mark in the javelin. She finished in first place in the event by recording the seventh-best throw in school history at 48.73m (159' 10"). Her distance also met ECAC qualifying standards.
Returning First-Team All-American
Braden Presser placed first in the javelin for the men's team with an IC4A qualifying mark of 68.35m (224' 3").
Jordynn Hutchinson claimed three victories in the meet. She took first place in the shot put (12.86m / 42' 2.25"), discus (42.58m / 139' 8") and hammer throw (48.73m / 159' 10").
Joshua Boamah won the discus and hammer throw with a pair of qualifying marks at 49.43m (162' 2") and 61.48m (201' 8"), respectively. He also placed second in the shot put with a qualifying distance of 17.18m (56' 4.5").
Collin Greene took first place in the shot put with a qualifying mark of 17.26m (56' 7.5").
Dane Vernor recorded the additional qualifying distance in the hammer throw (56.25m / 184' 6") to finish in second place.
Walker Rudisaile and
Alayna Schloeder both posted victories in the pole vault. Rudisaile won the men's pole vault with a height of 4.55m (14' 11"). Schloeder placed first in the women's event with a mark of 3.65m (11' 11.75").
Sheldon Ulmer won the high jump in his collegiate outdoor debut. He registered a qualifying mark of 2.08m (6' 9.75").
Hannah Lowenstein also garnered a first-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.60m (5' 3").
Joe Hurt claimed first place in the triple jump by compiling a mark of 14.25m (46' 9").
Colby Fahrney ended with Navy's top distance in the long jump. He finished in second place with a mark of 6.84m (22' 5.25").
Isabella Romasko helped the Mids win two events. Individually, the junior recorded a first-place long jump mark of 5.49m (18' 0.25"). She was also a member of the 4x100m relay team that finished in first place. The squad of

Mayu Gayton and
Sophia Richter combined to post a qualifying time of 47.21.
Two of the men's 4x100m relay teams recorded a qualifying time.
Brahmir Vick,
Nathan Kent,
Jonah Johnson and
Jay Evans won the race with a time of 40.79. The quartet of
Marcel Jackson,
Jacques Guillaume,
Nico Gonzalez-Reed and
Tyler Yurich clocked in a second-place time of 40.93.
Following a historic indoor season in the 60m hurdles, Vick started the outdoor campaign with a win in the 110m hurdles. He ended the race with a qualifying time of 13.93.
Anderson led the women's team in the 100m hurdles. She crossed the finish line in 14.44 to place first overall.
Annie Taylor finished behind Anderson in second place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.57. Additionally, she took second place in the long jump (5.46m / 17' 11") and third place in the 200m (25.15).
Kent claimed the victory in the 400m by posting a qualifying time of 47.30. Evans also clocked in a qualifying time of 48.49 to end in third place.
Taylor Woodworth won the women's 400m by finishing with a qualifying time of 55.83.
Kylie Bedard (second place) and Richter (third place) crossed the finish line after Woodworth with times of 56.59 and 58.76, respectively.
Gayton ran the 100m in 12.15 to place first in the race.
Caroline Rey recorded a time of 12.29 to finish in second place.
Jackson (10.85) and Gonzalez-Reed (10.93) both recorded qualifying times in the 100m to place second and third, respectively.
Levi Knobloch's 400m time of 55.43 helped him finish in first place in the race. Additionally,
David Walker posted a second-place finish at 55.77.
Morgan Blackford started her collegiate outdoor career with a win in the 400m hurdles. The freshman took first place with a time of 1:06.05.
Navy will remain in California to compete in the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational next Saturday at Point Loma. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon ET.
