ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams will look to win two more stars on Saturday when they battle Army in the Outdoor Star Meet at Shea Stadium in West Point, N.Y. The meet is part of the Army-Navy Star Series, presented by USAA.
 
The Mids have swept the outdoor meet the last eight times it has been held.
 
Both the men's and women's meets begin at 11 a.m. with the field events. The track events will start at 1:30 p.m. Fans can view the full meet schedule and free live results on NavySports.com(.)

Meet Scoring
Scoring is 5-3-2-1 for individual events and 5-3 for relays. The teams will enter three athletes competing in each individual event with two scoring per institution. There are 203 total points in the 17 individual events and two relays. A team needs 102 points to win the meet.
 
Smith Shatters 10,000m Record
Murphy Smith began his outdoor campaign by setting a new school record in the 10,000m at the Raleigh Relays. He posted a time of 28:37.01 to beat the previous record by 23.79, which was set in 1997 by John Mentzer (29:00.80). Smith placed ninth overall in a field of 108 athletes. His time currently ranks 34th in the country.
 
Additional top-10 times in Raleigh were recorded by Alexander Kirkland and Justin Mumford. Kirkland ran the fourth-fastest 10,000m in Navy history (29:11.54) to finish in 38th place. He owns the 86th-best time in the nation this season. Mumford placed 54th out of 198 runners in the 5,000m by clocking in the eighth-fastest time in team history at 13:59.29. The sophomore's time ranks 83rd nationally. 
 
Brahmir Vick posted the lone top-10 time at the Navy Outdoor Invitational last Saturday. He recorded the third-best 110m hurdles time (13.73) in program history to win the race. Vick's school-record time (13.58) that he ran earlier this season at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational is the 14th-fastest finish in the country.
 
Army-Navy Outdoor Star Series
The men's team owns a 52-44 record in the outdoor Star Meet. The men will look to claim their 12th-consecutive win against Army in the outdoor meet. Navy holds a 25-23 advantage when competing in West Point.
 
The Mids posted a 126-77 victory over the Black Knights a year ago. Navy won 15 of the 19 events and earned the maximum points (eight) in 10 to compile its highest point total since 2000. Additionally, the 49-point differential is the second-largest margin of victory for the men in their 96 meetings against Army. 
 
The men's team returns 10 athletes who won an event in last year's meet - Jonah Johnson (100m), Nathan Kent (200m, 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay), Jacques Guillaume (400m, 4x400m Relay), Sam Keeny (5,000m), Brahmir Vick (110m Hurdles, 4x100m Relay), Levi Knobloch (400m Hurdles), Jordan Payne (Triple Jump), Joshua Boamah (Shot Put, Discus) and Braden Presser (Javelin).
 
The women's team has won eight-straight outdoor Star Meets and 13 of the last 14. The Mids lead the women's series, 22-14.
 
Navy won the 2023 edition of the outdoor Star Meet, 111-92. The Mids placed first in 12 of the 19 events and earned the maximum points in seven.

Six members of the women's team return to defend their first-place finishes from a year ago - Kayla McGuire (800m), Jia Anderson (100m Hurdles, 4x100m Relay), Annie Taylor (400m Hurdles), Mayu Gayton (4x100m Relay), Hannah Lowenstein (High Jump) and Isabella Romasko (Long Jump).
 
Director of Track and Field / Cross Country, Jamie Cook, is 10-0 in the outdoor Star Meet during his tenure. Under his guidance, Navy owns a combined record of 21-3 between the men's and women's indoor and outdoor Star Meets. 
 
2023-24 Star Series Update
After a thrilling, 4-2, victory by women's tennis last week, Navy now leads the 2023-24 Star Series, 10-9-1. A sweep by track and field this weekend would put Navy one win away from securing the 2023-24 Star Series. The four remaining star competitions are men's and women's lacrosse (April 13), men's tennis (April 20) and baseball (April 26-28).
 
Navy has claimed stars in men's cross country, men's rugby, volleyball, men's and women's swimming & diving, rifle, gymnastics, men's and women's indoor track and field and women's tennis in the 2023-24 Star Series.

Mid-Atlantic Region Rankings
The men's team was ranked No. 1 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region outdoor rankings for the second-straight week, which was announced Monday afternoon.
 
Navy earned 824.12 points in the second set of rankings, which is 30.79 points ahead of No. 2 Penn State. The Mids own 27 times / marks that rank in the top 10 in the region on the men's side.
