Track and Field Returns To Competition For NCAA East Preliminaries

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams will send 16 mids to compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries Wednesday through Saturday in Lexington, Ky. Kentucky will play host to the meet at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
 
The men's portion of the meet will take place Wednesday (10 a.m.) and Friday (1 p.m.) and the women's events occur Thursday (10 a.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.). The Mids will have athletes competing all four days.
 
Results from the East and West Preliminaries will determine qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Championship. The national meet is slated for June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
 
East Preliminaries and NCAA Championship Qualifying Criteria
Athletes who ranked among the top 48 in their respective event earned a berth to the East Preliminaries. Additionally, the top-24 relay teams qualified for the event.
 
Navy's 16 competitors are tied for the most qualifiers under Director of Navy Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook. The Mids had 16 competitors in 2021, 14 in 2022 and 2023, 13 in 2019 and six in 2018.
 
The top-12 competitors from each individual event and the top-12 teams from each relay event will advance from the East and West Preliminaries to compete at nationals.

Broadcast Info
Fans with an ESPN+ subscription can watch the meet all four days. The broadcast will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Last Time Out (IC4A / ECAC Championships)
The Mids are coming off another strong showing at the IC4A / ECAC Championship two weeks ago.
 
Despite both teams having limited participants, the men's team placed first of 38 teams with 133 points in the IC4A Championship. The Mids totaled 56 more points than second-place George Mason to win their ninth IC4A Championship in program history. Navy has now won the meet five of the last six times it has been held.
 
The women's team finished in third place of 38 teams with 65.25 points in the ECAC Championship.
 
Nathan Kent highlighted the meet as the men's most outstanding performer. The sophomore won the 200m by posting the ninth-fastest finish in school history (21.06). Additionally, he clocked in a season-best 400m time of 46.41 to place first in the race.
 
Additional first-place finishers on the men's team included Luke Nester, Alexander Kirkland, Ben Countiss and Joshua Boamah.
 
Nester posted a time of 3:48.77 to win the 1,500m.
 
Kirkland claimed a victory in the 5,000m by recording the second-best time in team history at 13:52.11.
 
Countiss continued his excellent season in the 3,000m steeplechase by clocking in a winning time of 9:02.41.
 
Boamah won the shot put for the second-straight year with a mark of 18.34m (60' 2"). His distance ranks 10th in school history.
 
Jacques Guillaume also added his name to the record book. He took second place in the 400m hurdles by posting the fifth-fastest time in program history (51.47).
 
Annie Lemelin recorded a top-10 time in the 400m hurdles for the women's team. She compiled the fifth-best time in team history (59.80) to place second in the race.
 
Lemelin was also a part of the 4x400m relay team with Kylie Bedard, Kayla McGuire and Taylor Woodworth. The squad finished second overall with a time of 3:47.50.
 
Renny Murphy recorded Navy's top placement in the field events. She claimed third place in the javelin with a distance of 47.31m (155' 2").
