Navy Spring Invitational and Virginia Challenge on Tap for the Mids

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field teams are set to play host to the Navy Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Ingram Field in Annapolis. Additionally, a separate group of athletes will compete in the Virginia Challenge on Friday and Saturday at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. Neither meet will have team scoring.

Friday's home action includes the multi events (noon) and field events (3:30 p.m.). Saturday's slate features the conclusion of the multi events and field events (9:30 a.m.) along with the start of the track events (11:40 a.m.). 

The Virginia Challenge is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Virginia Challenge on ESPN+

Accessing the Naval Academy
• Vehicular access to the Naval Academy is limited to those drivers with a Department of Defense identification card.
• All other visitors must either park outside of the Naval Academy grounds and walk through the security gates at Gate 1 or take the complimentary shuttles from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401).
• The shuttles will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
• Enter the blue/west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue. The cost of parking is $10.
• Visitors 18 years and older must present a government-issued identification card (driver's license / passport) to gain access to the Academy grounds, while visitors 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Last Time Out
Navy posted a solid outcome at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va., last Saturday as the Mids won 10 events in the 10- team meet that did not include team scoring.

Tyler Yurich continued his dominance in the 100m this season when he won the event for the fifth-consecutive meet with a time of 10.51. Marcel Jackson finished just behind Yurich in 10.58 to take second place.

Navy's success in the sprints carried over into the 200m where Nathan Kent won the event for the third time this spring.  His effort tied the program's eighth-fastest time of 21.02. Yurich clocked in with a career-best time of 21.32 to finish in second place.

Jordynn Hutchinson began her day with a victory in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.55m (162' 6"). Hutchinson also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 13.08m (42' 11").

Freshman Madeline Palmisciano won her first collegiate event in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:09.28.

Navy Regional Rankings
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its third set of Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings this week.  The men's team is ranked fourth this week and the women's team is ranked seventh.
