Victor Izquierdo Named Team Captain for 2026 Baseball Season

Navy First Baseman Has Started Each of the Mids’ Last 102 Games

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Rising senior infielder Victor Izquierdo has been named as the team captain for the 2026 Navy baseball season, head coach Chuck Ristano announced Tuesday.

"I am beyond grateful to be stepping into the role of captain for the upcoming year," said Izquierdo. "Being named team captain is one of the greatest honors I've received. I'm incredibly humbled by the trust my teammates and coaches have placed in me. This program means everything to me and it's a privilege to lead a group of guys who are so hard-working, dedicated and determined to take the program to the next level. I will give everything I have to help the team grow, win and represent the Naval Academy and the Navy baseball program right."

A constant presence in the Midshipmen's lineup the past two seasons, Izquierdo is coming off a junior campaign that saw the first baseman hit .260 with 11 doubles and two home runs while tallying 23 runs scored and a team-high 32 RBI. Izquierdo heated up late by batting .342 over Navy's final 10 games. Izquierdo was also a stalwart defensively while starting every game for the Mids, committing just one error over 409 fielding chances.

"This is a tremendous honor for Victor and one he has earned by the way he has carried himself and the way he has treated anyone he's interacted with along his journey at the Academy," said Ristano. "The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Vic is someone of unimpeachable moral fiber who is programmed to do the right thing all the time. Vic has been an impact player for us while holding down first base since he arrived, but his impact as captain and leader of our team will reach far beyond anything that the box score will say. He leads by example and has garnered both the respect of his teammates and all of his peers at the Academy. I look forward to continuing to work with him to move our program forward and am excited for him to have an extremely successful senior season."

Starting each of the Mids' 102 games the past two years, Izquierdo holds a .267 career batting average while racking up 26 doubles, three homers, 47 runs scored and 74 RBI, also recording a .996 fielding percentage over his three seasons in the Navy Blue and Gold.
