Navy Wrestlers Set Sights on Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

After stepping away from competition for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Navy wrestling team (0-1, 0-0 EIWA) returns to action on Friday when it travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the 2018 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.  The Las Vegas Convention Center will serve as the host venue for the two-day tournament slated to begin Friday at 9:00 am PT / 12:00 pm ET.  The CKLV Invitational is one of the top annual events that highlights some of the nation's best wrestlers. This year's field features 42 teams, including 17 programs ranked among the top 25 in the country and another five, including five of the top 10.  Additionally, nearly 100 ranked wrestlers will be in action.


THE SCHEDULE
Friday, November 30:

9 am PT / 12:00 pm ET: Pigtail Round, Round One, Round 2 of (32) Championship, Round 3 of (32) Round 4 of Championship (16), Consolation 1st of (16) Round 5 Consolation 2nd of (16).
6 pm PT / 9 pm ET: Quarterfinals and Consolation Round 1st of (8)

Saturday, December 1:
9 am PT / 12:00 pm ET: Consolation 2nd of (8)
10 am PT / 1:00 pm ET: Semifinals and Consolation Semifinals, Consolation Finals (5th & 6th, 7th & 8th)
3 pm PT / 6:00 pm ET: Championship Finals (1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th)

More on the CKLV Invite
• This will be Navy's 11th overall appearance at the CKLV Invitational and fifth under head coach Joel Sharratt.
• Last season, the Mids placed 22nd among the field of 46 teams and saw four-time NCAA qualifier Jadaen Bernstein earn his 100th collegiate victory en route to placing fifth at 174 pounds.
• Teams competing at this year's CKLV Invitational include: Air Force, American, Binghamton, Brown, Cal Poly, California Baptist, Cal State Bakersfield, Central Michigan, The Citadel, Clarion, Cornell, Drexel, Duke, Fresno State, Harvard, Highline College, Hofstra, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Navy, Nebraska, Nebraska Kearney, North Carolina, North Dakota State, North Idaho, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Stanford, Utah Valley, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Western Wyoming and Wyoming.
• Among the 98 ranked wrestlers (Intermat) expected to compete at the CKLV Invitational, here is a breakdown by weight class:  125 (9), 133 (12), 141 (10), 149 (10), 157 (7), 165 (11), 174 (11), 184 (10), 197 (9), 285 (9).  Meanwhile, among the No. 1-ranked wrestlers among all the weight classes, only 184-pound Myles Martin of Ohio State is due to wrestle this weekend.
• Two of Navy's wrestlers have earned preseeds for this weekend's tournament - Ninth-ranked Nicholas Gil is the No. 5 seed at 141 pounds, while Jared Prince will make his first appearance on the mat since Navy's opener against Ohio State and has drawn a No. 12 see at 149 pounds.

What's Ahead
• The Mids will wrestle their final match before stepping away for final exams and the holiday break when they make the short trip to College Park, Md. to face Maryland on Friday, Dec. 7.  
• The dual between the two in-state rivals is slated to begin at 7:00 pm and will be held at the XFINITY Center.
