ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team participated in two events over the weekend, highlighted by finishing third in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Championship Series.
Â
Hosted by Brown in Boston, Mass., 18 teams competed in the competition for nine berths at the Atlantic Coast Championship that will take place in two weeks. The Midshipmen rebounded from an inconsistent performance on Saturday by posting 12-top scores to close out the event on Sunday, rising to third place in the team standings.
Â
JC Hermus (Sr., Bellport, N.Y.),
Kimmie Leonard (Sr., Annapolis, Md.) and
Ryan Wahba (Fr., Severna Park, Md.) posted a fifth-place mark in the competition's A division while
Gray Benson (Sr., Oxford, Md.) and
Fiona Lobon (Sr., Chestnut Hill, Mass.) were third in the B division. The team finish of third place proved to be a strong enough bid to advance to the Atlantic Coast Championships that will take place October 23-24 in St. Mary's, Md.
Â
Navy also fielded teams in both divisions of the Oyster Bowl hosted by St. Mary's. In the competition's Pearl division, Navy finished fourth in the seven-team field while tallying a sixth-place finish in the Spat division.
Caden Scheiblauer (Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) and
Madeline Smith (So., Nokomis, Fla.) finished sixth while
Tanner Kelly (Fr., Westerly, R.I.) and
