SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Navy track and field team concluded its annual spring break trip with a solid performance at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Meet at the Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) Track and Field Facility in San Diego, Calif. The Mids tallied six meet records to go along with 23 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times and marks.
 
"We did a lot of good things today and throughout the week," Director of Navy Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook said after the meet. "We had a lot of competitiveness among the team, not only today, but throughout the week. I believe we did a lot of really good things and there was a lot of comradery built this week. We are very fortunate to be able to make this trip out to California and be able to train all week in San Diego. It was very productive. We head back to Annapolis tomorrow. We have to get back into the swing of things with classes and our training as we prepare for a home meet next weekend."
 
The Midshipmen set meet records in the men's 110m hurdles, women's 4x100m relay, women's 4x400m relay, men's pole vault, women's triple jump, and men's javelin. In addition, the Mids tallied 14 IC4A qualifying times / marks on the men's side with eight ECAC performances on the women's side.
 
Brahmir Vick (Middletown, Del.) broke the meet record in the 110m hurdles with an IC4A qualifying time of 13.89, which is the third fastest performance in program history. The time topped the previous meet record of 14.47, which was set in 2016 by the Mids' Kordell Williams ('19).
 
The women's 4x100m relay team of Katie Halbert (Keller, Texas), Breanna Mealer (Severn, Md.), Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and Sabrina Sutter (Shingletown, Calif.) combined for an ECAC and meet time of 46.73, while the 4x400m relay team of Helen West (Pinehurst, N.C.), Sutter, Lindsay Lewis (Lanham, Md.), and Mangan posted a meet-record time of 3:50.30.
 
In the men's pole vault, Jack Haller (Cumming, Ga.) set the meet record with a height of 5.16m (16-11.00). The height edged the previous record of 5.00m, set by Navy's Jiles Maness ('16) in 2015.
 
Molly Chapman (Leesburg, Va.) won the triple jump with a meet-record distance of 11.97m (39-03.25). The jump is also the ninth best in program history.
 
In the men's javelin, Braden Presser (Liberty, Mo.) shattered the meet record with an IC4A qualifying distance of 73.55m (241-03), shattering the previous record, originally set by Navy's Jay Stell ('16) back in 2015. The distance was the second best in Navy history, falling 0.26m shy of Stell's school-record throw of 73.81m (242-02).
 
Navy track and field returns to action on Saturday, March 26 as the Midshipmen host the annual Navy Sprint Meet at Ingram Field. Live results will be available throughout the meet.
