BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off action in its season opener, the 2022 Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational this past weekend, the Navy women's rowing team was at the forefront of the Patriot League's first weekly awards announcement on Wednesday as the Mids' first varsity four crew was selected as the Patriot League Boat of the Week.
Racing on a 2,000-meter stretch of Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. the Mids competed in three separate races over Saturday and Sunday. In its first event of the weekend, Navy's V4 crew placed first ahead of Notre Dame, Tennessee and Tulsa with a time of 7:23.455. Later that same day, the Mids dropped 22-plus seconds off of its initial time and won again, this time knocking off Notre Dame, Indiana and Louisville. Navy completed that heat with a time of 7:01.267. The Mids rounded out their performance at the invitational with a second-place result on Sunday. Navy clocked in with a 7:17.157 time, that trailed Duke by 2.439 seconds, but bested Tennessee by over 16 seconds.
All of Navy's opposition over the weekend are ranked or are receiving votes in the CRCA Coaches Poll; No. 12 Duke, No. 18 Indiana, No. 20 Tennessee, R/V Notre Dame, R/V Louisville and R/V Tulsa. The Mids are the first team just outside the top-20 with 36 voting points.
