ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams competed in the Navy Spring Invitational I at Ingram Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Annapolis, Md. The meet had no team scoring.
The Mids posted 23 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times and won 19 events at their first home meet of the 2023 outdoor season.
The high jump and pole vault were moved indoors due to weather.
"I think the team handled the weather well. We prepare them for days like this and we can only control how we come out and execute on days like today," said Director of Track and Field / Cross Country
Jamie Cook. "I felt we did a good job today and the kids are excited for next week with the opportunities that present themselves."
"We understand this is a continuous process and the team is doing a great job of coming together and understanding where we are," continued Cook. "We like where we are at this point of the season, but there's always room for improvement. We have to stay healthy and continue to progress over the next few weeks."
Navy's 4x100m relay team of
Brahmir Vick,
Nathan Kent,
Sethan Hollier and
Caden Dailey placed first with an IC4A qualifying time of 41.37. Navy's additional team on the men's side of
Jonah Johnson,
Jay Evans,
Nico Gonzalez-Reed and
Tyler Yurich finished in second place with a qualifying time of 41.67.
The women's 4x100m relay team of
Caroline Rey,
Isabella Romasko,
Taylor Woodworth and
Rachel Anderson also placed first with a time of 48.33.
Molly Mangan had the top-overall finish in the 100m dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 11.99. Johnson (second place) and Dailey (fourth place) recorded qualifying times of 10.81 and 10.89 in the men's 100m dash, respectively.
Jacques Guillaume ran his first 200m race of the season and placed first with a collegiate-best/qualifying time of 21.26.
Pete deJonge took second place in the 400m with a collegiate-best/qualifying time of 48.70.
Kylie Bedard won the women's 400m race with a new career-best time of 56.78.
Kayla McGuire also recorded a new career-best time in the race at 57.03 to place second.
Ian Bartlett earned first place in the 800m with a qualifying time of 1:51.59. Freshmen
Gage Long (1:54.99) and
Take Zoot (1:55.04) competed in the first outdoor 800m of their college careers and placed second and third, respectively.
Navy took first place in the men's and women's 1500m.
Carson Sloat won the men's race with a collegiate-best/qualifying time of 3:52.41.
Emily Boutin's victory for the women's team was her first race of the outdoor season. The junior clocked in a collegiate-best/qualifying time of 4:29.52.
Three additional Mids recorded qualifying times in the men's 1500m race.
Jack Lange placed second with a collegiate-best time of 3:52.85.
Garrett Baublitz (3:53.13) and
Jack Mariano (3:53.86) ran the first 1500m of their careers and placed third and fourth, respectively.
Justin Mumford competed in his first collegiate race and won the 5,000m with a qualifying time of 14:22.21.
Alexander Kirkland (14:27.70) and
Mitchell Rome (14:29.69) both posted career-best and qualifying times to finish in second and third place, respectively.
Caroline Harding won the 5,000m for the women's team, clocking in a career-best time of 17:37.21.
Annie Lemelin ended with career-best times in the 100m and 400m hurdles. She won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.93 and placed third in the 400m hurdles with an effort of 1:05.39.
Levi Knobloch posted a career-best time of 54.01 in the men's 400m hurdles to claim first place.
Navy participated in the 3,000m steeplechase for the first time this season and won both the men's and women's races.
Sean Miller posted a collegiate-best time of 9:21.82 for the men and
Olivia Lutkevich clocked in a career-best time of 11:06.95 for the women.
Joshua Boamah recorded three qualifying marks in his events. He placed second in the hammer throw (60.40m; 198' 2") and the discus throw (48.87m; 160' 4"). The junior claimed third place in the shot put with a throw of 16.73m (54' 10.75").
Dane Vernor (third place) and
Sam Kwatkosky (fifth place) posted qualifying marks in the hammer throw with distances of 58.34m (191' 5") and 56.77m (186' 3"), respectively. The throw by Vernor also is the farthest of his career.
Autumn Nicholas placed second in the hammer throw with a qualifying mark of 55.29m (181' 5").
Jordynn Hutchinson won the discus throw with a distance of 42.43m (139' 2").
Peyton Pontif recorded the top throw of his career in the javelin to place second with a qualifying mark of 58.54m (192' 0").
After the pole vault was moved inside the Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse,
Stephanie Jacobs won the event for the women's team with a height of 3.81m (12' 6").
Jack Haller and
Walker Rudisaile finished in a tie for first place with a mark of 4.81m (15' 9.25").
Jordan Payne earned a victory for the Mids in the long jump with a distance of 14.01m (45' 11.75").

Two stars will be on the line next Saturday when Navy hosts the Outdoor Star Meet against Army on Saturday, April 1 at Ingram Field. The Star Meet is part of the Army-Navy Star Series, presented by USAA.
"This team is doing a lot of great things and next week is very exciting for us. We encourage everyone to come out and support our team because the Army-Navy Star Meet is something special to see," added Cook. "The focus this week will be getting some much-needed rest and knowing what the week ahead looks like. Everyone needs to be ready to work hard over the next few days, but the captains do a great job of getting everyone on the same page of what's to come."
