Squash Extends Winning Streak to 12 in a Row with Wins over Bowdoin and Bates

The 15th-ranked Navy squash team kept its unbeaten streak intact this weekend, facing its toughest opponents to date in 21st-ranked Bowdoin (0-2) and 22nd-ranked Bates (0-2). The Midshipmen, who are now 12-0 on the year, defeated both programs by a 9-0 mark at the Prager Family Squash Facility in Annapolis, Md. Navy is off to its best start since opening the 2015-16 season with a 14-0 record and finished the year 21-10.

Match Highlights
Bowdoin
• Team captain Alexander Orr (Sr / Haverford, Pa.) kicked the afternoon off with a 3-0 sweep over Bowdoin senior Aryan Singh at No. 3, before Avinash Uppuluri (So / Short Hills, N.J.) followed with a 3-0 victory of his own at No. 7 against sophomore Sachith Vissapragada.
• Matthew Kang (Jr / Malvern, Pa.) picked up an 11-5 victory over Bowdoin's Jai Karande in the opening game only to see that advantage erased by Karande who took game two 11-6. Kang, however, regrouped and scored back-to-back 11-8 and 11-4 wins to take the match and give the Mids a 3-0 lead.
• Sitting atop the ladder, Wenqing Tang (So / Villanova, Pa.) swept Bowdoin senior Liam Waldron in three games. However, the match was hard fought as Waldron pushed Wang in an 11-9, 14-12, 12-10 defeat.
• Christian Graziano (Fr / Greenwich, Conn.), Andrew Ko (Fr / Sykesville, Md.) and Ramsay Killinger (Jr / Wyndmoor, Pa.) all closed out their matches in under a minute from one another to seal the Navy victory. Graziano and Killinger swept their foes, while Ko came back from an 11-7 loss to William Maschler in the opening game to win the next three games and the match.
• With the match already decided, the Mids picked up the final two wins of the match, including a 3-2 thriller by Hudson Poirier (Wellesley, Mass.). The second-year Navy player found himself in a 2-1 deficit, but battled his way to victory with 11-8 and 11-9 victories in the fourth and fifth match against Oliver Pride at No. 9.

Bates
• Navy opened Sunday's match with Bates by winning its first-four matches by way of 3-0 decisions.
• Kang, who went four games the day before, was forced to go five games should he want to close out the team victory for the Mids. The third-year standout dropped his first-two games to freshman Rodrigo Chon Him 11-8 and 11-9. Kang was able to turn the momentum in his favor when he evened the match with 11-4 and 11-6 wins in the third and fourth. The fifth game was a back-and-forth battle that saw the more experience Kang coming out on top 14-12.
• For a second-consecutive match, Ko dropped his opening game, an 11-9 decision to Parker Davis Jr., but came back to take the match in four.
• Graziano, meanwhile, played one of the best matches of the weekend against Bates senior Ashton Monteiro. The two had countless long volleys and demonstrated tremendous sportsmanship. Graziano bested Monteiro in four, 11-4, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5.
• Killinger and Michael Tierney Jr. (So / Berwyn, Pa.) claimed the Mids final two matches of the weekend, both defeating their opponents in 3-0 decision.

• Navy now leads the series against Bowdoin 35-11, while narrowly leading Bates 18-14
• With a pair of wins over the weekend, Orr moved into a tie for 22nd on Navy's all-time wins leader board alongside Gavin Morrison (62-42 / 2001-05) with 62. He needs two more wins to tie Randy Beck (64-30 / 2013-17) for 21st on the list.
