Navy Track & Field Performs Well at Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Navy track and field teams recorded three program top 10 marks at the 129th edition of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

"Being able to come to Philadelphia and compete in the prestigious Penn Relays is a great opportunity for our team to be a part of a legendary meet, "said Navy Director of Track and Field Jamie Cook.  "The tough part about this meet is it's a week before our conference championship meet, so we have to measure how much we want to do for each athlete. We were able to accomplish what we came here to do and that was have a competitive effort against great competition."

Jordynn Hutchinson opened Navy's participation on Thursday with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.10m (180' 9"). She also competed in the shot put and discus, where she recorded marks of 13.78m (39' 0.25") and 40.33m (132' 3").

David Walker competed in the 400m hurdles, where he clocked a 52.60 to finish in third place in his heat and 20th overall.

The Mids posted an impressive showing in the distance medley relay race. The men's tandem of Luke Nester, Simon Alexander, Greyson Gravitt and Matt Newell ran a third-place time of 9:51.29.

The women's DMR team of Lexi Ensor, Julia Blake, Katelyn Pepin and Mia-Claire Kezal clocked the fourth-fastest time in program history, finishing in a time of 11:38.16 to finish eighth.

The 4x400m relay team of Pete deJonge, Nathan Kent, Walker and Jacques Guillaume clocked the second-fastest time (3:06.23) in school history to finish fourth in their heat.

Jia Anderson posted the program's second-fastest 100m hurdles time of 13.64 to finish 11th.

The men's 4x800m relay team featured Jack Lange, Tate Frost, Aidan Eberhardt and Carson Sloat ran a seventh-place time of 7:30.77.

Reilly Nussbaum, Stella Perazzini, Susanna Heinz and Jane Phillips posted a 9:01.66 in the 4x800m relay to finish in ninth place.

Zoie Tesi continues to shine in her freshman campaign as she finished in second place in the high jump with a leap of 1.70m (5' 7").

The women's 4x400m relay team of Kylie Bedard, Sophia Richter, Taylor Woodworth and Josephine Zink posted a time of 3:45.85 to finish in 18th place.

George Kalkanis and Malachi Cummings competed in the javelin throw college event. Kalkanis registered a throw of 56.97m (186' 11") to finish in eighth place and Cummings posted a mark of 56.60m (185' 8") to secure 10th place.

The women's triple jump featured Sami Bollinger and Sophia Notaro, who registered distances of 11.89m (39' 0.25) and 11.53m (37' 10"), respectively. Bollinger finished seventh and Notaro was 19th.

Layne Rivera was the lone midshipman in the javelin college event. She recorded a throw of 36.27m (119' 0") to finish 19th.

In the remaining men's throwing events, Adam Szatanek posted throws of 49.22m (161' 6") in the discus to finish 18th and 15.50m (49' 2.5") in the shot put to finish 19th. Max Rubin recorded distances of 44.90m (147' 4") in the discus to finish 24th and 14.41m (47' 3.5") in the shot put to finish 25th. Keyshawn Dolford tallied a throw of 13.43m (44' 0.75") to finish 27th in the shot put.

Nalina Smith competed in the college women's shot put (12.21m / 40' 0.75") and finished 27th and in the discus event (40.33m / 132' 3") she finished 19th.

The men's long jump featured Wyatt Shaw, who posted a leap of 6.61m (21' 8.25") for 15th place.

Navy returns to action next weekend when it travels to Worcester, Mass., to compete in the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship next Friday and Saturday. The Mids have won the previous six men's and women's outdoor championships.
