ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team placed five individuals on the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) All-Conference Teams, the organization announced this week.
JC Hermus,
Gray Benson,
Fiona Lobon,
Kimmie Leonard and
Ryan Wahba all represented the Midshipmen on the All-MAISA Teams. The All-MAISA honors bring the Mids' total to six on the season, as
Olivia de Olazarra was named an All-MAISA Women's Skipper First-Team selection on April 20.
Hermus highlighted the Midshipmen accolades, as the senior was named the MAISA Open Skipper of the Year and an All-MAISA First-Team Skipper selection. Hermus was named a first-team honoree for the second time in his career, along with garnering MAISA Open Skipper of the Year honors for the first time.
Joining Hermus in earning first-team honors was Benson, who was named an All-MAISA First-Team Skipper for the first time in his career. Rounding out the Navy presence in earning first-team accolades was the pairing Leonard and Lobon, as each was named All-MAISA First-Team Crew selections, respectively, while Wahba was recognized as a second-team crew honoree.
This marks the third All-MAISA award of Leonard's career, while Lobon garnered All-MAISA recognition for the second time.
After completing its 2021-22 regular season over the weekend, Navy is scheduled to return to action for the ICSA National Championships that will be held in New Orleans May 16-26. The Midshipmen have qualified for each of the three spring national championship events. Free, live scoring of all three championships will be provided on NavySports.com.
