Track and Field Looks to Continue Winning Streaks at Patriot League Outdoor Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams begin the postseason with the Patriot League Outdoor Championship Friday and Saturday. Lehigh will play host to the championship at the Goodman Track and Field Complex in Bethlehem, Pa. 

The two-day meet will begin at 9 a.m. on both days.

The men's team looks to win its ninth-consecutive outdoor title, while the women's team aims to claim its fifth-straight championship.

Track events for the championship will be streamed on ESPN+ at 1 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday. Field events during the championship will not be streamed, but up-to-date content featuring Patriot League multimedia journalist Maria Trivelpiece will be available by following @PatriotLeagueTV on Twitter and Instagram.

Patriot League Awards
Patriot League awards will be distributed based on individual placements. Athletes who win an event will be named to the First Team All-Patriot League and athletes who place second will be named to the second team. The men's and women's Patriot League Coach-of-the-Year awards will be voted on by the conference's head coaches. Additionally, head coaches will vote on the individual awards (Track Athlete, Field Athlete and Rookie of the Meet) at the completion of the events.

Three Mids Collect Patriot League Weekly Honors
Tom Fodor, Molly Mangan and Sophie Compton earned Patriot League Athlete-of-the-Week honors following their performances at the Penn Relays.
 
Fodor claimed the men's track athlete-of-the-week award for his ninth-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase. The junior posted a collegiate-best / IC4A qualifying time of 9:00.21. His time ranks third in the Patriot League this season.

Mangan received the women's track-athlete-of-the-week accolade after helping the Mids post a program record in the distance medley relay. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native ran the 400m section of the race in 52.62, which would be the fastest 400m dash time in the Patriot League this season. Mangan, Ellie Abraham, Alex Wercinski and Emily Boutin placed third in the race with a time of 11:22.72.

Compton garnered the women's rookie-of-the-week honor for playing a key role in Navy's 4x800m relay victory. The freshman ran the second leg of the race in 2:11.83 to push the Mids from fourth to second place. The quartet of Compton, Mia-Claire Kezal, McKenna Brophy and Emily Ettrich finished with the second-fastest time in Navy history at 8:48.17. Additionally, the time is the fastest in the Patriot League this season.

Conference Rankings
The men's and women's teams head into the conference championship ranked No. 1 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Patriot League rankings. 

The men's team owns 2,267.59 points, which is 1,058.76 more points than second-place Army. 

The Mids have posted 31 times / marks in 19 events that rank in the top three in the Patriot League.

2022 Patriot League Championship Recap
The Midshipmen swept the Patriot League Outdoor Championship for the fourth-consecutive season a year ago at Ingram Field.

The men's team finished with a tournament-record 333 points. Navy won its ninth outdoor title in program history and its eighth in a row. 

Caden Dailey looks to repeat as the men's highest point scorer. He accounted for 33 points with an individual victory in the 100m (10.89) and helped the Mids win the 4x100m relay (41.66). Additionally, he placed second in the 200m (22.08) and fourth in the long jump (7.09m / 23' 3.25"). 

Jacques Guillaume claimed the men's rookie-of-the-meet honor following a victory in the 400m (49.09). He also placed second in the 400m hurdles (52.99) and helped the Mids place second in the 4x400m relay (3:17.10).

Jay Evans, Sethan Hollier and Brahmir Vick also return to defend Navy's 4x100m relay title.

Ian Bartlett returns as the only member of last year's 4x800m relay team that claimed first place with a time of 7:30.13. 

Brett Brady crossed the finish line in 9:05.82 to win the 3,000m steeplechase. 

Baynes Autrey won three events to finish with the best decathlon score at the championship with 6,684 points. 

Walker Rudisaile recorded the seventh-best pole vault height in school history at 5.18m (17' 0") to claim the gold medal.

Aidan Featherby won the triple jump title in his rookie season with a mark of 14.81m (48' 7.25").

Braden Presser recorded the top throw in the javelin at 69.46m (227' 11") to win his first individual title. 

The women's team registered the second-most points in meet history with 281.50 points. The victory for the women's team marked its sixth outdoor championship and fourth consecutive.

Hannah Lowenstein broke the program record in the high jump with a mark of 1.77m (5' 9.75") to win the event. 

Molly Chapman placed first in the triple jump with the current fourth-best triple jump distance in Navy's record book at 12.21m (40' 2"). 

Molly Mangan and Sabrina Sutter will compete for another 4x100m relay gold medal after winning the race last year with a time of 47.00. Additionally, Sutter also looks to repeat as the 200m champion after clocking in with a winning time of 24.56. 

Ellie Abraham beat teammate Winter Boese by .01 seconds in the 3,000m steeplechase to win the event with a time of 10:28.52.

Helen West was the only Mid to race in the 400m, but she claimed the title with a time of 56.00.
