ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's track and field team had a historic outing at the 2023 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship, placing first overall to win the team title for the third consecutive season and 13th in program history. Navy won eight of the 18 events, winning the gold in the 200m, 5,000m, 60m hurdles, 4x400m relay, distance medley relay, pole vault, shot put and heptathlon to score 256 points, which is the third-most scored points in the men's indoor championship all-time. Overall, the men ended with 13 program top-10 marks, while breaking two program records and three Patriot League Indoor Championship meet records.
After claiming his fourth indoor title, Director of Track and Field / Cross Country
Jamie Cook received his fourth Patriot League Indoor Championship Coach of the Year award. Additionally,
Jacques Guillaume was the recipient of the Patriot League Indoor Championship Track Athlete of the Meet and was named the meet's highest point scorer.
"Our goal as always was to control what we can control and perform the way we knew we could. It was a great meet from both teams. A lot of people contributed in a lot of different ways, and I'm really proud of our team and coaching staff," said Cook. "It's rewarding to see the kids set high marks for themselves, put in the work to attain it and see it happen. You have to take a second and applaud them for that. Effort and attitude are two big things we can control in our sport and I'm proud of all the work they've put in through the good and tough moments this season. People on this team respond to adversity in the right way and focus on the team over themselves."
"It was extremely rewarding to see our captains go up and accept the championship trophies," continued Cook. "Being a captain here means a lot and it's a lot of responsibility. They all deserve this moment as the leaders of the team. It has been great to see them grow from their freshman to senior year, and I'm excited to see what they do in the fleet and going forward."
