Navy Track and Field Sweeps Army at Outdoor Star Meet to Clinch 2022-23 Star Series

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams swept the 2023 Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet on Saturday at Ingram Field. The two victories earned the Mids two stars in the Army-Navy Star Series, presented by USAA.

The men's team posted a 126-77 victory over the Black Knights. The win is the men's 11th-consecutive and 52nd overall in the series. The 126 points scored by the Mids is their highest point total since 2000. Additionally, the 49-point differential is the second-largest margin of victory for the men in its 96 meetings against Army.

The women's team defeated Army by a score of 111-92. The women won their eighth straight star and claimed their 22nd win.

The high jump and pole vault events were moved indoors due to weather. The men's 3,000m steeplechase, 4x100m relay, 1500m, 110m hurdles and 400m times were hand timed and will not count towards any records.

"When you think about how long the season is and how many times we compete, to come out the way we did and perform in a dual meet designed to be close is significant. Our goal is to win every time we compete and that's difficult to do with so many variables," said Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook. "We're very fortunate that we came out on top again and to have 16-straight wins over Army shows the hard work and leadership within our program."

"Our goal is to execute to the best of our ability and not worry about the other team. We always harp on focusing on what we can control and in the end the score should take care of itself," continued Cook. "We have been fortunate to get consistent training and have people come into the program that want to elevate it even further."

Along with the two stars won by track and field, the women's team won its star match over Army earlier in the day to help Navy clinch the 2022-23 Army-Navy Star Series. The win marks the 39th time in the past 45 years in which Navy has won the Star Series (39-4-2).

Navy improved to 13-7 in Star competitions against Army this season. Additionally, the Navy track and field and cross country teams swept all six Star competitions for the second-consecutive season.

"A lot of it comes down to our captains and our leadership. Winter Boese was the definition of a captain and great teammate today," added Cook. "She came out and did what she needed to do to help the team win even though she couldn't compete today. That's the sign of a true leader and she has been that person for us since she got here."

"Everybody on our staff has done a really good job this season. It takes a whole unit for us to be successful and I want to highlight all the people in the support roles. It's a fun time for them, but it's also a lot of hard work and we want to make sure we take a chance to celebrate those victories as well."
