Track and Field Set to Host the Wesley Brown Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams will play host to the annual Wesley A. Brown Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Wesley. A Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. The meet will not have team scoring.

The multi events will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and continue at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The first field event will start at 9:30 a.m. and the first track event will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Notes For Traveling Fans
• Admission to the Wesley A. Brown Invitational is free.
• Vehicular access to the Naval Academy is limited to those drivers with a Department of Defense identification card. 
• All other visitors must either park outside of the Naval Academy grounds and walk through the security gates at Gate 1 or take the complimentary shuttles from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401). 
• The shuttles will run from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
• Enter the blue/west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue. 
• The cost of parking is $10.
• Visitors 18 years and older must present a government-issued identification card (driver's license / passport) to gain access to the Academy grounds, while visitors 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Boamah and Ulmer Claim More Weekly Awards
Joshua Boamah was named this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman, and also earned his second Patriot League Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week award this season. Additionally, Sheldon Ulmer claimed the Patriot League Men's Rookie-of-the-Week accolade for the second time.
 
Boamah scored seven points in Navy's victory against Princeton last Saturday for placing first in the weight throw (21.02m / 68' 11.75") and second in the shot put (17.62m / 57' 9.75"). His weight throw effort, which ranks 16th in the country, broke the program record set by Ted Bregar (20.76m / 68-01.50) in 1973 by .26m.
 
Ulmer won the high jump with a mark of 2.08m (6' 9.75") to score five points. His height ranks second in the Patriot League and fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Recap of Princeton Dual
The Mids split their annual dual meet against Princeton last Saturday.

The men's team defeated the Tigers, 92-87, to claim its fourth-straight victory in the series. Additionally, the men improved to 5-1 against Princeton under Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook.

The Mids won nine of the 17 events and scored the maximum points (eight) in four.

The additional win for Navy in the field events came from Walker Rudisaile. He won the pole vault with a height of 5.20m (17' 0.75"), which is tied for the ninth-best mark in school history. His effort currently ranks 20th in the nation. 

Brahmir Vick posted his second victory in the 60m hurdles this season. The senior crossed the finish line in 7.81 seconds, which is tied for the second-best time in program history. Additionally, his finish is the 21st-fastest time in the country.

Carson Sloat (1:52.07) and Greyson Gravitt (2:28.23) shined individually by placing first in the 800m and the 1,000m, respectively. Sloat's 800m time is fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

The duo also helped the Mids win the 4x800m relay (7:43.41) with Garrett Baublitz and Anthony Engle

Sam Keeny started his senior campaign with a victory in the mile. His 4:09.40 time ranks sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region. 

Murphy Smith recorded a time of 8:18.11 to place first in the 3,000m. His time ranks third in the Mid-Atlantic Region. 

The women's team dropped a 103-74 decision to Princeton. 

Hannah Lowenstein claimed her second win of the season in the high jump at 1.75m (5' 8.75"). Her height is the second-best mark in Navy history and just .02m off the school record that she set at the Navy Invitational I earlier this season.

Alayna Schloeder posted the best pole vault height in her collegiate career to finish in second place. She ended with a mark of 3.95m (12' 11.5"), which is tied for the ninth-best effort in team history. The Rockford, Minn., native also owns the eight-highest mark in the Mid-Atlantic Region. 

Sami Bollinger claimed the additional victory in the field events for the Mids by winning the triple jump with a distance of 11.85m (38' 10.5"). Her mark stands at 16th in the Mid-Atlantic Region. 

Jia Anderson posted wins in the 200m (24.70) and 60m hurdles (8.62). Her 200m and 60m hurdle times rank ninth and seventh in the Mid-Atlantic Region, respectively. Additionally, Anderson's finish in the 60m hurdles is the 10th-fastest time in program history. 

Ellie Abraham posted the 10th-best mile time (4:51.96) in Navy history to garner a second-place finish in the race. She also owns the third-fastest time in the Mid-Atlantic Region. 

Emily Boutin finished right behind Abraham in third place with the fourth-best time in the Mid-Atlantic Region (4:52.19).

Lt. Cmdr. Wesley A. Brown, CEC, USN, (Ret.)
The late Lt. Cmdr. Wesley A. Brown, CEC, USN, (Ret.), whom the Navy indoor track and field facility is named for, was the first African American to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy. Brown was born on April 3, 1927 in Baltimore, Md. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., where he was Cadet Corps Regimental Commander during his senior year. Nominated for admission by New York Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Brown entered the Academy in 1945 and graduated in June of 1949. Lt. Cmdr. Brown, a veteran of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retired in June of 1969 after serving 20 years in the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps. He holds the Navy Commendation Medal, as well as the World War II and Korean War Victory, Korean Service and American Theater and Antarctic Service Ribbons. Brown passed away in 2012.
