ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams concluded competition in two meets on Saturday. The Mids competed in the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., and played host to the Navy Spring Invitational II at Ingram Field. Both meets did not have team scoring.
Virginia Challenge Recap
Highlighting the weekend for Navy was
Emily Boutin setting a new program record in the 5,000m invite at the Virginia Challenge. The junior placed fourth in the race with a time of 16:21.41. Her effort is 8.36 seconds faster than the previous record set by Melissa Foon in 2001 (16:29.77).
Ellie Abraham recorded the eighth-best 3,000m steeplechase in Navy's record book at 10:28.60 to place fifth. She also placed seventh in the 800m with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:09.78.
Sam Keeny placed fifth in the 5,000m invitational with the eight-fastest time in school history at 13:59.90.
Brett Brady finished in third place in the 3,000m steeplechase invite with a qualifying time of 8:54.82.
Ben Countiss also posted a qualifying time of 9:02.64 to place ninth.
Murphy Smith (fourth place) and
Alexander Kirkland (10th place) competed in the additional 5,000m event and posted IC4A qualifying times of 14:26.40 and 14:36.60, respectively.
Sophie Compton placed third in the additional women's 5,000m race with a qualifying time of 17:05.62.
Ian Bartlett recorded a qualifying time of 1:50.51 in the 800m invite to place 25th.
Carson Sloat finished second in the additional 800m competition with a qualifying time of 1:51.19.
Alex Rizzo registered a qualifying time of 3:46.77 in the 1,500m invite to finish in 27th place.
Jack Mariano placed ninth in the additional 1,500m race with a qualifying time of 3:51.07.
Navy Spring Invitational II Recap
The Mids recorded four program top-10 times / marks at their home meet. Additionally, Navy posted 42 times / marks that met IC4A / ECAC qualifying standards.
Baynes Autrey ended with the third-most decathlon points in Navy history with 7,287. His field event victories came in the long jump (7.08m / 23' 2.75"), pole vault (4.50m / 14" 9") and javelin (52.23m / 171' 4"). His track event wins came in the 400m (50.71), 110m hurdles (14.34) and 1,500m (4:39.76). Additionally, his long jump mark and 110m hurdles time met IC4A qualifying standards.
Annie Taylor posted the eight-best heptathlon score in school history with 4,825 points. She placed first in the 800m with a time of 2:24.19. She also took second place in the 100m hurdles (14.62) and shot put (11.65m / 38' 2.75").
The women's 4x100m relay team of
Jia Anderson,
Mayu Gayton,
Molly Mangan and
Sabrina Sutter recorded their fifth top-10 time of the season. The squad placed second in the event with the ninth-best time in program history at 46.24.
Both men's 4x100m relay teams recorded qualifying times. The quartet of
Brahmir Vick,
Nathan Kent,
Sethan Hollier and
Caden Dailey won the race with a time of 40.90.
Jonah Johnson,
Jay Evans,
Nico Gonzalez-Reed and
Tyler Yurich finished third overall with a time of 41.80.
Anderson won the 100m hurdles with a qualifying time of 13.56. Her finish didn't count as a Navy top-10 time due to illegal wind.
Annie Lemelin finished in fourth place in the 100m hurdles with a qualifying time of 14.32. She also placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.47.
Olympian and Navy volunteer coach Devon Allen won the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.39. He also placed first in the 100m with a time of 10.34
Vick placed second behind Allen with a qualifying time of 13.64 in the 110m hurdles. His time was not a program top-10 time because of illegal wind.
Jayshon Dubose registered a qualifying time of 14.65 to finish in fifth place in the 110m hurdles. He also competed in the 400m hurdles and placed second with a time of 55.16.
Levi Knobloch won the 400m hurdles for Navy with a time of 54.26.
Five Mids recorded qualifying times in the 100m. Hollier placed second with Navy's best time of 10.55. Evans and Dailey both posted a time of 10.61 to place third and fourth, respectively. Vick placed eighth with a time of 10.72 and Gonzalez-Reed finished 10th overall with a time of 10.82. Additionally, Kent (10.66), Yurich (10.83) and Johnson (10.87) recorded qualifying times in the 100m dash of the decathlon to place first, second and third, respectively.
Gayton won the women's 100m with a time of 11.94. Her finish was not considered an ECAC qualifying time due to illegal wind.
Sutter posted a qualifying time in the 200m at 24.39 to finish in third place.
Jacques Guillaume won the 200m and 400m with qualifying times of 20.87 and 47.11, respectively. His 200m time wasn't counted as a program top-10 time due to illegal wind.
Hollier (second place), Evans (third place) and Gonzalez-Reed (seventh place) registered additional 200m qualifying times of 21.04, 21.28 and 21.95, respectively.
Peter DeJonge posted the additional 400m qualifying time at 48.21 to place third.
Lauren Moore won the 800m and 1,500m with times of 2:20.18 and 4:45.28, respectively.
Jack Lange won the men's 1,500m with a qualifying time of 3:52.35.
Jack Rooney followed behind Lange in second place with a qualifying time of 3:53.29.
Sean Miller and
Katelyn Pepin were victorious in their respective 3,000m steeplechase races. Miller won the men's race with a time of 9:19.17 and Pepin won the women's event with a time of 11:07.93.
Autumn Nicholas had the top performance in the field events for Navy. She posted the third-farthest distance in school history in the hammer throw at 59.30m (194' 6") to finish in second place. The senior also placed second in the discus with a qualifying mark of 44.45m (145' 10").
Joshua Boamah's qualifying marks in the shot put (16.98m / 55' 8.5") and discus (52.07m / 170' 10") earned him first place in both events. He also ended in second place in the hammer throw with a qualifying mark of 59.67m (195' 9").
Sam Kwatkosky won the hammer throw with a qualifying mark of 59.78m (196' 1"). Additionally,
Dane Vernor (third place) and
Collin Greene (fifth place) posted qualifying throws of 56.52m (185' 5") and 53.18m (174' 5"), respectively.
Greene also finished in second place in the shot put with a qualifying distance of 16.09m (52' 9.5").
David Huizenga placed second in the discus with a qualifying mark of 51.77m (169' 10").
Jordynn Hutchinson also posted a qualifying mark in the women's discus at 43.34m (142' 2") to take third place.
Stephanie Jacobs (first place),
Charlene Morke (second place) and
Alayna Schloeder (fourth place) all posted a qualifying mark of 3.82m (12' 6.25") in the pole vault. Jacobs earned the victory by using fewer attempts to get to her final height.
Walker Rudisaile placed second in the pole vault for the men's team with a qualifying height of 4.86m (15' 11.25").
Colby Fahrney finished just short of a qualifying mark in the long jump, but still won the event with a distance of 7.01m (23' 0").

Navy will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., next week to compete in the Penn Relays. The 127th edition of America's oldest and largest track and field competition runs Thursday (noon), Friday (noon) and Saturday (9:30 a.m.).
